Scales of Pay for Petty Officers, Seamen and Boys in the Royal Navy |
The following table, from the Navy List for 20 Dec 1860, reflects the changes introduced by the Admiralty which were published on 14 June 1853, but also appears to include subsequent changes in pay and allowances, and in ratings that subsequently took place between 1853-1860.

* A Yeoman of Signals to be borne in addition in Flag Ships at Home and Abroad, and to be paid as a Chief Working Petty Officer
Gunnery Instructors to receive 6d a day in addition to all other Pay of their Ratings.
Seamen Gunners to receive 2d a day in the 2nd Class and 4d a day in the 1st Class in addition to all other pay of their Ratings
Trained Men to receive 1d a day in addition to all other Pay of their Ratings
Divers to receive 1d a day in addition to all other pay of their Ratings
ßß Sick Berth Stewards to be allowed, in addition to their pay, a Gratuity of 8d a day in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Rates; 6d a day in 4th and 5th Rates; and 4d a day in 6th Rates and sloops, upon a Certificate signed by the Captain being produced that they have satisfactorily performed their duties.
Sick Berth Attendants to receive in addition to their Pay a Gratuity equal to half that allowed to Sick Berth Stewards; but on board ships in which a Sick Berth Steward is not borne, to be paid the whole Sick Berth Gratuity.
Men of these ratings * who have a complete set of tools, to receive 3d a day for Tool money, in addition to all other pay of their Ratings
� Caulkers and Caulkers' Mates to be allowed Tool money at the Rate of 3d a day, in addition to their pay, if employed in Carpenter's Crews and in possession of Tools.
Men with these ratings � who have a complete set of Tools, to receive 2d a day for Tool Money in addition to all other pay of their Ratings
Seamen's Schoolmaster, Ship's Steward, Ship's Cook, Sick Bert Steward, Sick Berth Attendant, Servants, Musicians, Bandmen, Butchers, Barbers, Shoemakers, Lamp Trimmers, Tailors, Ship Steward's Assistant, Cook's Mate, Kroomen, and Ship Steward's Boy, are not to be entered for continuous Service
