Wine And Medical Comforts For The Sick

Circular No. 423

Admiralty 15th May 1860

My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are pleased to direct, that whenever it may be necessary on Foreign Stations to purchase Wine and Medical Comforts for the use of the Sick onboard Her Majesty's Ships, the Principal Medical Officer is to act in conjunction with the Victualling Agent in obtaining; the requisite supplies. With respect to the Wine required for this purpose my Lords have no objection to the course frequently adopted by the Surgeons of Her Majesty's Ships of obtaining it from the Officers Mess on board their respective Ships, and paying for it out of the Sick Mess Fund, when it can be done without inconvenience.

By Command of their Lordships
