Daniel Boone,
in 1775, brought a company
of men to cut out a path
through the Cumberland Gap
to enable a settlement effort
by the Transylvania Company
in Transylvania. The trail
was widened in the 1790's to
accommodate wagon traffic.

TRAILBLAZERS

PIONEERS

SAMUEL PAVEY I
made his way through
Cumberland Gap, bringing
his family to settle in
'Kaintucke' (Kentucky) where
some of his grandchildren
were born. He died there
in 1803.

The descendants of
Samuel Pavey I, along
with many of our other
ancestors left Kentucky
in the early 1800's. They
traveled by 'flatboats'
like this one down the
Ohio River as they settled
& pioneered in Ohio,
& Indiana.
