What makes this interesting is that Reuben Elmore purchased the land on December 24, 1834 for $50.  He then resold part of the land to Charles Crofford  on January 12, 1836 for $15 and then part of the land to Walter Bell  on January 15, 1836 for $40 making $5 a profit?  All the deeds appear to be  written and witnessed on January 15, 1836.     See update below:

Note:  It  appears that he didn't record the land  until he decided to sell it.  Perhaps a family relationship here?    Perhaps through Mary Elmore Hibdon.   Go to Points to Ponder to view letter from a Hibdon researcher, Pat Calton.    Perhaps Mary Elmore Hibdon was Reuben H. Elmore's sister????  From the census their ages seem to be close.  Reuben was in the 30-40 age group in 1840, and Mary Elmore Hibdon was born in 1801.

UPDATE:
---Robertson County, Tennessee Minutes, Book 1
Why Land is Declared in the Name of Heirs
Tennessee has a strange law that does NOT require heirs to register their new lands until they sell.  It is possible for one tract of land to pass through several generations before being recorded again.

Undated, March 1790. Comment: Carr’s Creek begins west of the town of Springfield, Robertson County, and heads upstream in a southeast direction ending before reaching the Davidson County border. It lies entirely within Robertson County

A pole was 16 1/2 feet ----Pointer(s) were three man-made hack marks on a nearby tree that point to a corner stone or stake of a survey.   The term corner could have been  used to describe any point on a survey.

Tennesseans frequently were in the vanguard of westward migration. They were prominent among the pioneer settlers of Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Illinois, Mississippi and Alabama and joined enthusiastically in the California gold rush.-----A HISTORY OF TENNESSEE    Page 375
