The World War I Draft Registration Card for James Henry Elmore, youngest son of John Reuben Elmore.

James Henry Elmore was born July 21, 1895 in Camden County, MO.  He was named after his half-uncle Joseph Henry Elmore, and was always called  Henry, the same as his uncle.  James Henry was in World War I stationed at Cook Base Hospital #82 in France.

On February 6, 1938, Henry was killed by Delaware County, Oklahoma, deputies while driving past them in a truck.  The deputies were beside the road and called out verbally for him to stop, then started shooting.  Henry was dead by the time the truck came to a stop.  The official version was "mistaken identity and resisting arrest."  The unofficial version was that the deputies had been imbibing in a little alcohol.
Henry is buried in Mayes Ross Cemetery at Salina, Oklahoma.
