The family legend has an interesting story & there always seem to be some truth in family legends.

"Happen to think of story handed down to us about our grandpa Wm, or his dad.  He was a young man on the Trail of Tears march.  Down around Berryman he slipped away and found refuge with a farm family.  He worked for them and when the husband died he married the widow and took her name.  A lot of the Cherokee people had light hair and blue eyes and passed for white but they also had white names as they were the most civilized of the Indians being farmers and such.  Now Wm, age-wise, couldn't have been on the l838 and 39 march, but his Dad could have."  (from Wilma Pratt)

The family would like to prove or disprove this legend!
