MaguireCHRISTOPHER MAGUIRE (died Apeil 27 1890)
The subject of this obituary is well known to the
people of Brampton and to a great many throughout the
county. About twenty-one years ago he apprenticed
himself to the printing art in the office of the late
Alexander Dick, and in the Banner office he labored
steadily and industriously all those years until five
weeks prior to his decease. He was a very honest and
straightforward young man; his word was never
questioned, and although of a very reserved and
retiring manner, was a universal favorite. Deceased
has for many years been foreman of the Banner, and his
fellow workmen have kind words, and only kind, to say
for their comrade who has gone before. MR. MAGUIRE
has been in poor health for over a year, but worked
until he was compelled through weakness to give up.
That dire disease, consumption, was working its way
with fatal effect. A few weeks ago he went to Toronto
to consult other medical advice, and there died at the
residence of his wife's sister, St. Patrick St., on
Sunday last, 29th at noon. His remains were brought
to Brampton on Tuesday morning and conveyed to his
residence on Helston Avenue. From there the funeral
took place on Wednesday morning, 30th ult. Service
for the dead was held in the Roman Catholic church and
was conducted by the priest of this parish, Rev.
Father Morris, after which the remains were interred
in the R.C. Cemetery. The firemen marched in a body
at the funeral, deceased being Captain of No. 2
Company. A pillow of flowers with the words "Brother
Fire Man" and one from the Banner office inscribed
"Our Foreman" were very beautiful. There were other
floral offerings. Deceased leaves a widow, one child,
a little boy of about five years, father, mother and
brothers to mourn his loss. The universal sympathy of
the community is with the widow in this very trying
affliction which she has been called upon to pass
through. Deceased was insured in the C.M.B.A. for
$1,000.

Champion, 17 Nov 1898 MOORE, Samuel -Last week a terrible straw
cutter accident occasioned the death of Samuel MOORE of Cooksville. While
cutting straw on the BLAKE farm at Mimico the deceased was feeding and caught
his left arm in the rollers of the machine, and in a moment the arm was drawn
in and chopped off piece by piece up to the shoulder by the swiftly revolvong knives.
The engine belt was immediately thrown, but all too late, as the victim
died almost instantly. The deceased lived on the Centre Road near Cooksville
and leaves a wife and six children.
