Free Census Project and Cornwall Online Census Project
The objective of the Free Census project is to transcribe all UK 19th century census returns (from 1841 to 1891) in order to create an online “free-to-view”, searchable database.
The Cornwall Online Census Project, now completed, is part of Free Census and was run by Kay Hinnrichsen who lives in Australia and Michael McCormick who lives in Cornwall. It was part of an initiative aimed at helping to make high quality primary (or near-primary) records of relevance to UK genealogy conveniently and freely available online.

This was the first census of value to family historians as it recorded the names of each person at the address at which he or she spent the night of the census although relationships between them were not recorded. No place of birth was recorded although an indication 'Y' or 'N' was given as to whether they were born in the county. For those aged 14 or younger the exact age was normally recorded, but the ages of those aged 15 or greater were generally (but not always) rounded down to the nearest 5 years below - so someone who stated he was 19 should have been recorded as 15.
The 1841 census for Cornwall has been transcribed and is available online. For Phillack (and Hayle), the census is on pieces RG107/143, ED1-2 and ED3-4.
Parts of Hayle, primarily Trelissick and Hayle Foundry, were enumerated within the civil parish of St Erth and are on piece RG107/144, ED1.
