LD,
There is a Reuben Pierce on the 1800 and 1810 census in Edgefield, SC. I believe this same Reuben Pierce is living in Abbeville, SC in 1820.
On the 1800 census, this Reuben had 3 sons and 3 daughters under age 10. He and his wife we both 26-45, and there was another female in the household who was 16-26 (probably a relative).
On the 1810 census, he had 3 more sons under 10, and 1 more daughter under 10, meaning that by that time he had 6 sons and 4 daughters

On the 1820 census in Abbeville, there is one more male under 10, so this could have been another son, or maybe a grandchild.

Something interesting is that in 1820, he is living next door to a Joseph Boyd.
I have a deed from Oct. 6, 1804 in Edgefield District where Reubin Pierce sells land on Swift Creek to John Boyd (to whom he was in debt for $300). So I believe this is the same Reubin Pierce in 1800, 1804, 1810 and 1820. I'm not sure what happened to him after 1820, nor have I identified any of his sons -- of which he seems to have had plenty (although, based on the census records, its possible that a couple of them may have died young).
Now, our Reubin Pierce (b. 1768 SC) was in Jackson Co., GA in 1809, 1810 and 1820. Sometimes people move during census years and they get enumerated in both places. However, since each of these Reubens are living in their respective states in both 1810 and 1820, I believe they must be different people.
This means that we don't have any idea where our Reuben came from in SC, or when hemoved to Georgia. Although, if Sampson was his son, we know he was born in SC in 1804-1806, so the move occurred between then and 1809. Since there are no census records for Georgia prior to 1820, it makes things difficult. There is no reason to assume that our Reuben came from Edgefield, SC, but I am hoping that we are somehow connected to the Pierce family from Edgefield, SC.
Now, back to the Reuben who lived in Edgefield/Abbeville 1800 to 1820. If he had 6 children in 1800 who were under age 10, then he was probably married right around 1790. If he was living in Edgefield at the time, he probably was in the household of Thomas Pierce. This should all sound familiar to Dorman. Dorman had made a good case for this particular Reuben being the father of his happy group of siblings. It still sounds like a pretty good avenue to pursue. If this Reuben moved to Abbeville shortly before 1820, then died there, maybe his wife and children ended up migrating to Hall County, GA (following the Russells?). If this is not the case, then we need to try to account for the sons of this Reuben Pierce. Who are they and what happened to them? I have not looked for them yet.
I'm going to make a wild guess and say that maybe our Reuben Pierce (b. 1768 SC) was the brother of Thomas Pierce and John Pierce Sr. (of Edgefield, SC), and that Thomas Pierce is the father of this other Reuben Pierce found in Edgefield/Abbeville.
I do not believe our Reuben Pierce (b. 1768 SC) married until after 1800 (when he was over 30 years old). Just where he was in 1790 and 1800 is anybody's guess. Actually, he may have been in Georgia and returned to SC after 1800 and married there, then back to Georgia a few years later.
I believe I have accounted for all the children of our Reuben Pierce found on the 1820 Hall Co. census -- 5 sons and 1 daughter. The oldest was born about 1804. I have no evidence that he had any older children.
Wiley Pierce (b. 1804 SC) md. Sally Mills in 1823
Sampson Pierce (b. 1806 SC) md Rachel Barnes (cir. 1832)
Lucretia Pierce (b 1808 GA)md. William Cavender in 1826
Wilson Pierce (b. 1811 GA) md. Nancy Barton in1835 (my gr-gr-grandparents - Dan Pierce)
George Washington Pierce md. Mary Evans (cir. 1833)
Andrew Jackson Pierce (b. 1815 GA) md. Nancy Abercrombie in 1837

The circumstantial evidence for all of the above being siblings and the children of Reuben Pierce (b. 1768 SC) is becoming more and more convincing. And there really is no contrary evidence.
Dan

Feb 2009 Dan Writes
Reuben PIERCE, b. cir 1768 in South Carolina, d. aft 1850. He married Lavicy. Reuben is first identified on the 1809 tax digest of Jackson County, GA. Hall County, GA was created from Jackson County in 1818 and Reuben is found on the 1820 census of Hall County, GA, but he probably had not moved. On the 1830 and 1840 census, Reuben is living in Hall County, GA, but had moved to the northern part of the county. On the 1850 census, Reuben is living in Lumpkin County, GA. He and Vicy are also found in the Hightower Baptist Church Minutes in 1850. This is the last record found for him.

Dna Test April 6 2011 Letter from Dan Pierce April 20 2011

Regarding Reuben Pierce (b. 1768 SC), several researchers had ascribed him as being the progenitor of many of the Pierces in Hall County, GA (and surrounding counties) including not only our Group KK, but also the group of siblings that we refer to as Dorman Thomas line, represented by ID XXXXX (Group X).

I made contact with LD on the internet back in 1998. He put me in touch with Dorman Thomas who was researching the Pierces in Hall County, GA. After extensive research and correspondence over the next year, Dorman and I came to the conclusion that there were are least two separate groups of Pierce siblings living in northwest Hall County Georgia during the same time period, and that this Reuben Pierce could be directly connected to only one of those groups of siblings. We both agreed that he was most likely the ancestor of my line of Pierces (which turns out to be Group XXXX) and not Domans line (Group X). We had supposed that there was probably some connection between them a couple generations back in South Carolina. However, the DNA has proven that there is no connection, which validates our research that these were two separate groups of Pierce siblings.

Based on the 1820, 1830, 1840 and 1850 census, we can only account for Reuben Pierce having 5 sons and 1 daughter. The 1800 and 1810 census of Georgia does not exist however, based on tax rolls we know that Reuben Pierce was in Georgia by 1809. Reuben was old enough that he may have been married before and had other children, but we have no evidence of that.

I am confident of my lineage back to Wilson Pierce b. 1811 GA, and LD is confident of his lineage back to Andrew Jackson Pierce b. 1815 GA. Although we do not have conclusive proof that Reuben is that father of Wilson and Andrew J. (he is actually old enough to be their grandfather), there is a wealth of circumstantial evidence that points to a very close relationship between them (as well as with Sampson Pierce b. 1804 SC), and really no contradictory evidence. If he is not their father, he raised them. It also seems likely that George Washington Pierce b. 1810-1820, and Wiley Pierce b. 1806 SC were the other two males in Reuben's household. We have one good candidate for the female child in Reuben's household.

So our research indicated that LD and I were descended from a common ancestor. However, we expected to be related to other Pierces who had lived in north Georgia in the early 1800s. When I got my DNA results and did not match to anyone, this presented a problem was I actually a Pierce by blood? Matching to LD was important for me. Now I know that we have a common Pierce ancestor who was born before 1800 (my ancestor Wilson was born 1811 and LDs ancestor Andrew J. was born 1815). So the DNA results show that both LD and I are Pierces by blood, and that our research is good so far. If Reuben is not the father of Wilson and Andrew J., he is either their grandfather or uncle who raised them. But at this point I think we have to assume he is their father.

We do have connections with descendants of the Sampson Pierce line and I hope to get someone to have their DNA tested.

Also, the George Washington Pierce line has been frustrating. We know he was married with children in 1840, but he completely disappears after that. However, there was a simple statement in a book of a related family that his family was in Arkansas in 1891 although no reference to the source. Recently I have done a lot a research trying to track him down, and I believe I have now found his wife and children in Arkansas. I have recently been in touch with a male Pierce who I believe is a descendant of this George Washington Pierce. Now that we have our DNA match, I am going to try to get him to participate.

LD, April 6 2012
I believe Newton Jasper Pierce is Carls grandfather. Jenny knew that Newton Jaspers father was named Reuben Pierce and that he was from Georgia, but didnt know anything else about him or his parents.
The research Ive done in the past year led me to believe that this Reuben Pierce in Montgomery Co., AR was the son of George Washington Pierce of Hall Co., GA.
A couple weeks ago I found the evidence I was looking for in the Montgomery Co., AR probate records (that I ordered on microfilm from the Mormon library). I found that Mary Ann Pierce filed for probate of her husband George W. Pierce, deceased in 1854. And I found another record that indicated Reuben Pierce as an heir to the estate.
Now we have further confirmation in the DNA results that show Carl and you and I all share a common ancestor. Dan Pierce.

A note from Dan Pierce
about our Pierce DNA tests
he recently took the Ancestory DNA test
I have not but thought I punched my DNA data into ancestory

So far I have the following matches from Ancestry DNA to cousins descended from Reuben Pierce and wife Lavisa.

Margaret Kath – Reuben Pierce
                             Wilson Pierce

Donald Berry – Reuben Pierce
                           Wilson Pierce

Marcia Tinder – Reuben Pierce
                            Andrew Jackson Pierce

Charlene Cusumano – Reuben Pierce
                                      Sampson Pierce

DebiAiken – Reuben Pierce
                       Sampson Pierce

Jennifer Gourley – Reuben Pierce
                                Lucretia Pierce Cavender

And from the Y-DNA Surname test we know I match to:

LD Pierce – Reuben Pierce
                      Andrew Jackson Pierce

Carl Pierce – Reuben Pierce
                        George Washington Pierce

Alexander Lewis – ???  (he is the closest match to me of anyone)

Mr. Lewis is actually a Pierce – probably a descendant of Wilson Pierce, but we don’t know his lineage.

The match to Jennifer Gourley is very important because the circumstantial evidence suggests that Lucretia Pierce Cavender was the one daughter of Reuben (as enumerated on the 1820 census), and this DNA match confirms that Lucretia was from our Pierce family.  So I am now comfortable listing her as the daughter of Reuben and Lavisa.

Also, the matches to the descendants of Sampson Pierce are also important.  None of the descendants of Sampson Pierce had taken the Y-DNA Surname test (at least that I know of), so until this, I did not have DNA matches to Sampson’s line.
