Capt. William Porter Martin (W. P. Martin was born at Campbell's Station, TN. He served in the Mexican War from 1846-1848, with the GA Volunteers. With his family, he came to Dallas in 1859. He was a Capt in the Confederate Army, Commissary Dept, Gen Gano's Regiment, & died while in service. He was part donor of the Old Cemetery. Martin Street was named for him.) John Brownson of B. J. or R. L. & Mary Brown 3/27/1840-3/4/1861 (John Brown, Mrs. W. P. Martin's nephew, came to Dallas ill & soon died. No marker-footstone only) Capt. W. T. Gillenwater (William Terrell Gillenwater served two enlistments in the War of 1812, first in the Mounted Volunteer Militia from East TN, 1812-1813, then as Capt with an East TN Volunteer Infantry, 1813-1814. He came to Dallas with his grandson, John Brown, & because of the war, could not return to his home in MO. No stone.) |
