Nicholas Henry Darnell (Nicholas Henry Darnell was born in Williamson Co., TN & served in the TN Legislature before coming to TX in 1838. He worked as manager of the St. Nicholas Hotel (which was named after him), established by Dallas Entrepreneur Sarah Horton Cockrell to rival Crutchfield House which was owned & operated by Thomas Crutchfield. He served in the Legislature of the Republic of TX for several terms, was Speaker of the House in 1842, & was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1845. He served throughout the Mexican War, 1846-1848, with a TX Regiment. He was a Capt in the Dallas County Rangers in 1860 and was Col of the 18th Calvary Regiment, Confederate Army, mustered in at Dallas.
