John M. & Frances Killen Smith Laws Family Memorial
Erected in memory of my parents---John M & Frances Laws & brother& sisters---John, Mary, Maggie, Annie, Sarah & Martha---by Penelope

(John M. Laws was born in Chapel Hill, TN on 2/4/1831. He came to Dallas County in 1855 & married Frances Killen Smith, the daughter of Rev. James A & Anne K. Smith, on 9/9/1858. Frances was born in Chester District, SC on 7/14/1838. John M. served in the Confederate Army for four years in Co. I, 6th TX Cavalry, taking part in the Battles of Franklin, Corinth, Holly Springs & Atlanta. He was District & County Clerk from 1869-1873. Frances died in Dallas County on 6/26/1876.
