Benjamin Grumbles

(July 22, 1870 - November 20, 1871)


Obituary from the Weekly Statesman, Austin, Texas Nov. 21, 1871
On Monday Mr. Benjamin Grumbles, the oldest citizen of Travis County, died at his residence, near Austin. Mr. Grumbles of ninety-eight years old, but active to the last. At the last election it is said that this old gentleman walked into town, two miles, and voted for the Democratic candidate. He was one of the first settlers of Texas.

Benjamin Grumbles followed his sons to Texas, settling in Austin.  He was married to Keziah Pierce and together they had ten children.

Both he and Keziah as well as his second wife Isabel O'Connor Grumbles are buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Texas.
