GROVETON
W. O. W. Unveiled a Monument to Memory of Sovereign T. A. Hudson
(Houston Post Special)
     "GROVETON, Texas, October 8 – The monument erected to the memory of Sovereign T.
A. Hudson, deceased, of Yellow Pine camp No. 429, Woodmen of the World, of Grove-
ton, Texas, was unveiled with appropriate ceremonies in the presence of a large assemblage
in the city cemetery yesterday, Sunday, October 7, 1906, at 2:30 p.m.
     "Sovereign Hudson died at the home of his parents in Groveton, September 8, 1905.  The
date of the unveiling was set at the stated time by the request of the family of deceased.
     "A procession of more than a hundred Woodmen formed at the Woodmen hall and headed
by the Woodmen silver cornet band and followed by the boys and young men of the Groveton
public school in line marched to the cemetery.
     "The usual Woodmen unveiling ceremonies were carried out.  The band and a selected
choir rendered several appropriate selections, and N. H. Phillips delivered an oration."

   "Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Kelly visited Crockett the past week, the guest of Mr. Kelly’s mother,
Mrs M. J. Kelly, Sr.
   "Mrs E. M. Clayton has gone to Maybank to spend the holidays with her parents.  Mrs Alec
Johnson and Mrs. Emma Johnson, visited their sister in Lufkin the past week.
   "Miss Lizzie Inman visited friends at Lovelady the past week.
   "N. G. B. Frazier and wife, who formerly lived at this place but for the past several years residents
of Woodville, arrived in Groveton the latter part of last week to make this their future home.
   "Mrs M. J. Kelly will leave in a day or two for Sealy, her maiden home, to spend the holidays with
her parents, Mr.and Mrs. J. A. Jackson.
   "Mrs. Luella Crow entertained the As You Like It Club last Saturday afternoon.  After a highly
interesting program was carried out, Mrs. Crow served refreshments."

     "Miss ???? Belk, who was back in school in K????ville the past few months, has returned
to Groveton.
     "Mrs. T. H. McClendon of Lufkin is visiting her sister, Mrs. R. L. Longino.
     "Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Kenley visited friends and relatives in Trinity last Sunday, returning
Tuesday.
     "Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Meek are visiting relatives in Houston this week.
     "Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Kenley are spending this week in Houston.
     "Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Minton entertained a number of young people last Saturday evening
complimentary to their brother, J. M. Minton of San Augustine.
     "Mrs. Abe Magee of Houston is visiting friends and relatives here this week.
     "Mrs. H. A. Reagan and children of Carthage arrived here Wednesday and will reside here,
Rev. H. A. Reagan having accepted the First Baptist church here.
     "Miss Addie Lee Stephens has returned to her home in Beaumont, after spending several
weeks with her relative, Miss Edna Magee.
     "Mrs. George Barrow visited friends in Corrigan last week.
     "Mrs. H. Williams and little daughter Velma are visiting friends in Lufkin."

     "Mrs. W.J. Walker of Timpson was the pleasant guest of Mrs. G. H. Motley last week.
     "Mr. And Mrs. G. W. Locke have returned home after a two weeks' visit with relatives
at Cleveland.
     "Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Longino, with their daughter, Miss Maggie, left for Lufkin last
Tuesday, where they will reside.  Their many friends here regret very much to lose them.
     "Mrs. Sallie Jones of Trinity was the pleasant guest of Mrs. C. D. Joe last Wednesday.
     "Mrs. W. J. Womack and daughter Ina are visiting in Jasper this week.
     "Mrs. R. D. Crow of Trinity is spending the week with relatives here.
     "Mrs. W. W. West of Houston is visiting her mother, Mrs. Furlow.
     "Mrs. Ludolph Heilecbrodt is guest of relatives here this week.
     "Mrs. W. J. Womack is visiting relatives in Center.
     "Mrs. W. G. Menefee visited in Lufkin last week.
     "Miss Stella Jones went to Trinity Saturday.
     "Mrs. W. P. Smith and children are in Nacogdoches.
     "Mrs. J. J. Goodwin and Miss Winnie Goodwin visited here last week.
     "The most enjoyable event of the season was the 6 o'clock dinner given by Mrs. G. H.
Motley at her beautiful home last Friday in honor of her friend, Mrs. W. J. Walker of Timpson.
Covers were laid for thirty and a dainty nine-course luncheon was served in the most beautiful
manner by the charming hostess, assisted by Mesdames J. R. Reynolds, F. Smith and
B. F. Jennings.  The parlors and dining room, with decorations of cut flowers formed a beautiful
background for the handsomely gowned ladies that partook of this happy social affair.  A turkey
contest in the form of place cards was a very enjoyable feature of the evening.  Those who were
fortunate enough to be invited to this enjoyable feast were Mesdames B. A. Platt, W. Menefee,
E. C. Chin, J. N. McClendon, W. J. Magee, C. H. Williams, W. L. Avery, E. H. Robertson,
W. H. Bradley, W. N. Wood, C. H. Bradley, Charles Reichart, J. H. West, T. B. Wood,
H. B. Hughes, C. H. Kenley, R. O. Kenley, R. E. Minton, J.W. Stevenson, W. N. Womack,
T. D. Stanford, C. D. Poe, B. B. Brittan, W. J. Womack, F. O. Evans, W. P. Smith, Misses

      "Wesley West of Onalaska was in Trinity a few days the past week.
      "Mrs. Webster and daughter Mary, who have been visiting in San Antonio, have returned
home.
      "W. J. Werner, auditor of the International and Great Northern Railroad, visited Trinity the
past week and was the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Werner.
     "Miss Ruth Jensen has returned to Trinity to resume her music school for the present year.
     "Mrs. Carl McGee spent a day or two in Crockett the past week, the guest of Miss Ruth
Jensen.
     "Mr. and Mrs. Walter Radley spent the week end with Mr. Radley's parents in Houston.
     "Mrs. L. L. Werner and two children of San Antonio passed through Trinity the past week
en route to Groveton to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stoke Evans."

     "Mrs. Hinson, formerly Mrs. Wyatt Douglas, of Lake Charles, La., visited the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Shultz several days the past week.
     "Miss Madel Werner returned home Monday after a week's visit to relatives in
Shreveport, La.
     "Mrs. Lee of Huntsville was the guest of the Shultz family a few days the past week.
      "The Ladies' Aid Society met at the residence of Mrs. W. B. Riley in a social meeting
Monday.
     "Among the visitors to Houston to the grand opera were Mrs. Hoxie Thompson,
Mrs. E. Webster and Mrs. O. P. Jopling.
     "Mrs. Will Little has returned after a week's visit to relatives in Houston.
     "Mrs. Arthur Fain of Houston is visiting her mother, Mrs. Ida Taylor.
     "Mrs. Ben Morgan and little daughters, Elzora and Margaret, are making an extended
visit to relatives in Madisonville.
     "After several weeks visit to relatives, Mrs. Paul McGar left for her home
in Little Rock, Ark."

    "Mrs. Carrie Dawson, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. R. T. Walker, and family
returned to her home in Galveston Tuesday.
    "Mrs. Ben Schultz is visiting her son, Earl Schultz, at Longview.
    "Miss Fannie Warner and Mrs. Poe of Groveton motored over to Trinity last week and called
on relatives and friends while here.
    "Mrs. M. E. Trout of Cleveland was a visitor to the Lansberry home the past week."
