Death of Dr. U. H. Shine
"Last Thursday night death claimed Dr. U. H. Shine of Leggett, after several weeks of suffering.   Dr. Shine was 59 years of age at the time of his death.
"He was born in Butler county, Alabama, on February 14th 1857.  He was married to Miss Augusta Kern on December 6th 1874.
"He moved to Texas several years ago, and when he first moved to Polk County he located at Barnum; from there he moved to Hortense, and for the past six years he has been living at Leggett.
"Dr. Shine was a man who made friends and kept them.  His home was always open to his friend and that kind of Southern hospitality was always found in his home.  He will greatly missed by all who knew him, for God has transferred him from the activities of this world to the unknown duties of a higher sphere, leaving to his relatives and friends only the tender memories which they will forever cherish of his cheerful greetins, his attractive personality, and his helpful labors for their happiness and for the welfare of his state and county.
"The remains were laid to rest Friday in the Cross Roads cemetery with Masonic honors.
"Dr. Shine leaves a wife, five daughters, Miss Pearl, Mrs. L. T. Braswell of Jasper, Mrs. R. L. George of Seymour, Mrs. A. W. Coker and Mrs. E. L. Williamson of Livingston.  Three sons,  Jim of Silsbee, Gus of Houston, Dave of Leggett and a number of other relatives to mourn his death."
