H. B. Davis Sr. Funeral Today at Livingston
" Livingston, April 13___ (Sp). Funeral services
for H. B. Davis Sr., 78, who had lived in Livingston since 1903, will be
held at 2 PM Friday at the Central Baptist Church here with the Rev. Ben
H. Welmaker, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Leroy Condrey, pastor
of the First Methodist Church.
MR. DAVIS died of a heart attack early Thursday
morning in a local hospital. He was stricken Sunday afternoon
at his home and was taken to the hospital Tuesday.
He was born Nov. 15, 1871, near Montgomery, Ala.,
in Cremshaw County. He was married to Miss Edith Oldham in Fort Worth
Nov. 3, 1897. They observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary in
1947.
He owned and operated a dry goods store in the same
location since coming to Livingston. His son, H. B. Davis, Jr. recently
became an associate with his father and the business is now known as H.
B. Davis and Son Dry Goods.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Central Baptist Church.
He served as deacon of this church for 50 years and was at the time of
his death church clerk and a senior deacon.
HE SERVED as school trustee for many years,
holding the office of president and of secretary during the time.
Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Claude
R. Vincent of Wharton and Mrs. Leo H. Davis of Livingston; three sons,
H. B. Davis Jr. of Livingston, Joe G. Davis of Huntsville, and Rev. Milton
O. Davis of Kerens; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Brogdon of South Pasadena,
Calif., Mrs. Fannie Fuqua of Shiro, Mrs. Callie Kennard of Navasota and
Mrs. Tom Spell of Shiro; one brother, W. S. Davis of Spiro and 10 grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements will be directed by Pace Funeral Home."
