Obituary of Judge J. Holshousen

     "On Wednesday night of the last week a gloom was cast over the entire town, when it was learned that Judge J. Holshousen had died suddenly with heart trouble.... 
     "Judge Holshousen was born in Polk County, and lived in the county continuously to the time of his death.  His father C. Holshousen, was one of the early settlers of Polk county.  On October 7, 1872, Judge Holshousen was married to Miss Attie McKinnon.  Judge Holshousen was educated at Lexington, Kentucky, and received a thorough training, both in law and in civil engineering. 
     "On November 5, 1878, he was elected Judge of Polk County, and was re-elected to that office in 1880, but in February 1882, he resigned as county judge, and T.T.Crosson was appointed as his successor.  In 1900, Judge Holshousen was again
elected county judge, and served two terms....He served as a member of the 30th legislature....Judge Holshousen has also served on the school board, and has been a member of the city council.....He was an eminent lawyer. 
     "He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.....Interment was made in Forest Hill Cemetery.... 
     "Judge Holshousen was 65 years, 7 months, 27 days of age at the time of his death.  He leaves a wife, a sister, Mrs. Eliza Victery of Silsbee, a niece, Miss Kathleen McKinnon, who he raised from early childhood, and many other relatives to mourn
his death. 
     "Among relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Miss Kathleen McKinnon, who was attending school at Milford;  Mr and Mrs. M. Tackaberry;  Miss Jennie Criswell of Houston;  Dr. W.F. Gibson and Mrs. J.E. Hill of Beaumont; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Victery, Miss Maud Victery of Leggett; Joe Victery of Keltys:  Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Wintz of Kountz;  Mr. and Mrs. R.N. McKinnon of ??;  Mr. and Mrs. L.A. McKinnon and son, Neil of Hubbard;  Mrs. J. G. Muller of St. Francisville, Louisiana;  and Mr. Jim Cook of New Willard."
