The Rowe Cemetery, also known as the Rowe-Dunnam Cemetery, is a small family cemetery
enclosed by a wrought iron fence.  It  was created in 1850.   Samuel A. Rowe and his family came
to the Republic of Texas in late 1839 from Talbot County, Georgia.  They purchased property and
settled near the community of Colita on Long Tom Creek.  Samuel Rowe had married Mary A.
Weathers in Georgia and came to Texas with four children and his mother-in-law Sarah Weathers.
He was a farmer by occupation but became Postmaster of Colita in 1853 and laid out the town of
Kickapoo the same year.  On February 3, 1854 he was appointed a commissioner to purchase a
tract of land for an Alabama Indian tribe. This land is now a part of the Alabama Coushatta Indian
Reservation.  Mr. Rowe served both tribes as their Indian Agent.

Location: At the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and FM 350 in Moscow, Texas go west on
    FM 350 for 4.5 miles just pass Long Tom Creek.  The cemetery is located on the right about
    one mile in the woods on private property.  It is not accessible by road.

Note:  In 1906 Pleasant R. Rowe, a resident of the Confederate Home in Austin, told the
    Polk County Enterprise that he was one of the oldest living citizens of Polk County having
    arrived in the county in 1839 prior to statehood.  Mr. Rowe spent most of his life in Moscow,
    Texas and was a town favorite known by everyone as "Uncle Pleas". He was known to have
    a keen wit and a talent for composing spur-of-the-moment poetry to everyone he met.
