Charles Powell Sr. to Jeremiah Briscoe
Whereas some unhappy differences has taken place between me Charles Powell and my wife Sarah Powell
For $600 to Jeremiah Briscoe five Negroes to wit:
Lid, a black woman 27 years old and Tony, Jeff, Jordain, and Mirah, children of said black woman except Tony, also half my stock of cattle, sheep and hogs and the whole of the kitchen furniture, twenty barrels of Indian corn to be paid next fall
Note: It seems likely from other legal documents related to the separation of Charles and Sarah Powell that one or more Lid's children was fathered by Charles Powell. Possible surnames for the children: Powell, Briscoe, Briscro, or Gholson
