Voyle Brunner letter, Page 1
Voyle Brunner was not a dour
man, not in the least. An example of his wit and humor follows in this
letter, sent to Stella and Clyde Dopkins, his wife's aunt and her husband.

Hello Clyde:-
You are brought forcebly back to my mind through the
fact that Margaret, Mary Alice and I just finished papering our
house here. The house dont look so bad from the out side but you
ought to see Margaret Mary Alice and I. . We figure that If the
paste would have held out a little longer Mary Alice wouldnt have
had to eat for six weeks. as it was we finished nailing the
paper on with the only thing available which was shinger nails.
It furnishes a beautiful view along about midnight when the lights
are out. Knowing that you have, in your time hung considerable
paper we wish sincerely that you could view this job as without doubt
suggest some new and interesting angles in the paper hanging art,
to you. We , that Is Margaret Mary Alice and I Kalsomined a
couple rooms, Mary Alice , when we finished looked like one of these
roseate sunsets that you read about. Believe me she is getting to
be some Kid. she shovels sand all day and works her Dad to a
finish. The other day she asked her mother for about a thousand
things and finaly asked to be put on the P---Pot, Margaret says .
" For heavens sake Mary Alice is there any thing else you want"
and she says " Yes Ice Cream" She is cutting a couple big Jaw
teeth but even at that she has gained several pounds in weight
since we landed here.
