Pritchard Reunions

The first Pritchard family reunion was held in 1932. Abbie Stewart Pritchard of Wyman and first cousin Sam Pritchard of Arnprior came up with the idea, and the reunion was held at the original farmstead of their grandparents John Pritchard and Jane Steenson, which by 1932 was the home of Joe and Clara (Dods) Pritchard. The reunion was an obvious success, so much so that all and more returned for a repeat performance in 1933 (see Press Reports). Abbie served as secretary-treasurer until the 1959 reunion.

Possibly the second reunion, in 1933

Ties between the timing of the 1932 reunion and a century of Pritchards in Canada may have been coincidence. Nonetheless, 1982 marked the 50th anniversary of the first reunion and the 150th anniversary of the family's arrival. Held at the homestead with press and TV coverage, special events included swimming, a service by Reverend David Mainse (of 100 Huntley Street), a tour of the Pritchard cemetery, and an evening dance at the Alcove Community Centre. More than 200 family members attended (see 1982 photos and Press Reports).top

Pritchard Law of Picnics

It never rains on a Pritchard picnic.

The second branch of this law is that if it should happen to rain you may get wet, but you will enjoy yourself in any event.top
