George Dempsey & Others To W. H. Brown - for 38 acres of land

For and in consideration of the sum of forty dollars paid to George Dempsey, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, and the sum of twenty dollars paid to each of us, Miss M. A. Dempsey, to T. A. Byram and her husband J. A. Byram, and to S. E. Chrisman and husband A. Chrisman, we George Dempsey, Miss M. A. Dempsey, T. A. Byram and husband J. A. Byram, and S. E. Chrisman and husband A. Chrisman, have bargained and sold, and do hereby transfer and convey to W. H. Brown, and his heirs and assigns forever, our undivided four-fifth interest and each of our one fifth interest, in ? in and to the following tract of land lying in District No. 8 Sumner County, Tennessee, and bounded as follows. On the North by Sam Honeycutt, on the East by A. E. Bell, on the South by Ira Dorris, and on the West by Larkin Dempsey containing about thirty eight acres be the same more or less, being the Melvin Dempsey tract. To have and to hold said four undivided interests in and to said above described tract of land to the said W. H. Brown, his heirs and assigns forever. We covenant each for himself, that we  are lawfully seized of said undivided four interests (the same being four fifths of said tract) in and to said land in fee that said interests are unencumbered, and that we have a good right to convey the same. We each for himself do further covenant and bind ourselves, our heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend that title to said four interests in said land, to the said W. H. Brown, his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all whomsoever, this September 9th 1887.

State of Tennessee, Davidson County - Personally appeared before me W. T. Smith clerk of the County Court of said county, the within named G. L. Dempsey, C. E. Dempsey the bargainors with whom I am personally acquainted and acknowledged that they executed the within instrument for the purposes therein expressed. And C. E. Dempsey and M. A. Dempsey, wife of the said G. L. Dempsey having personally appeared before me privately and apart from her husband and the said C. E. Dempsey acknowledged the execution of the said instrument to have been done by her freely, voluntarily and understandingly without compulsion or constraint from her said husband and for the purposes therein expressed. State of Tennessee, Sumner County - Personally appeared before me Harris Brown Clerk of the County Court of said county, the within named A. Chrisman one of the bargainors, with whom I am personally acquainted, and acknowledged that he executed the within written instrument for the purposes therein expressed. State of Tennessee, Sumner County - To C. M. Sutton, Esq. - You are hereby authorized and empowered to take the examination of Mrs. Sarah E. Chrisman privately and apart from her husband, relative to the free execution of the annexed deed, and the same so taken to certify under your hand & seal. State of Tennessee, Sumner County - Sarah E. Chrisman wife of A. Chrisman having personally appeared before me, and having by virtue of the authority in me vested, been examined privately and apart from her said husband. She having acknowledged the due execution of the annexed deed, by her freely, voluntarily & understandingly without compulsion or constraint by her said husband and for the purposes therein expressed, the same is therefore certified. Witness my hand & seal this Sept. 26th 1887. C. M. Sutton, J. P.

State of Tennessee, Maury County - Personally appeared before me J. W. McKissack, Notary Public, in and for Maury County, the above named J. A. Byram and Mrs. T. A. Byram the bargainors with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that they executed the above in the instrument for the purposes therein expressed. And Mrs. T. A. Byram, wife of the said J. A. Byram, having personally appeared before me privately and apart from her husband, the said J. A. Byram, acknowledged the execution of the said instrument to have been done by her freely, voluntarily, and understandingly without compulsion or constraint from her said husband and for the purposes therein expressed.
