This Indenture made this 9th day of January 1818 between George Northam Senr and George Northam Junr both of Richmond County, North Carolina. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of Twenty five dollars, together with the natural affection which the said George Northam Senr bears toward his son George Northam Junr have therefore bargained & sold and by these Presents doth give, [grant-marked thru] bargain [&-marked thru lightly] sell & convey to him the said George Northam Junr The following Land, to wit: a part of the land which he purchased of Hector McKinnon on the west side  of Stealy's mill branch; beginning in a small drain at a Poplar by two maples & runs with the old line No. 44 Et. crossing a prong of the mill branch to a stake by a Dogwood, Pine Hickory & Gum Bush __ Then So. 42 East to the run of the mill Branch aforesaid, Then down the run thereof to Gardeners line __ then with said line North west to his corner __ Then joining on  McDowel's line No. 44 Et. to the Beginning __ Supposed to contain Sixty acres but be the same more or less __ and it is particularly intended That The claim hereby conveyed should not extend lower down the So. Mill Branch than Elias Gardener's upper line & to be bounded by Said line to  McDowel's line & no further South or West

of said boundaries -- To Hold to the said George Northam Junr his Heirs and assigns forever free & clear of all manner of incumbrances to his only proper use & benefit; and I The said George Northam Senr do hereby agree to warrant and forever defend The said Land & premises to the George Northam Junr against all legal claims whatever -- In witness I have hereunto set my  hand & seal this 9th Jany 1818.
