This Indenture made and entered into this the tenth day of January A. D. One Thousand Eight Hundred Sixty by and between George W. Northam and William H. Covington both of the County of Richmond and State of North Carolina Witnesseth, that for an in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and fifty dollars to the said George W. Northam in hand paid by the said William H. Covington the riceipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged the said George W. Northam has bargained and sold & by these presents doth grant bargain [and-marked thru] sell and convey to the said William H. Covington his heirs, Executors & administrators and assigns forever, a certain piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in the said County of Richmond on the North side of the Hitchcock creek Beginning at a stooping ^Red oak^ with white oak pointers near the bank of said Creek a short distance above an old fence on said Creek William H. Covingtons corner, and runs with a line of said Covingtons land North Seventy Seven degrees West One hundred and thirty two poles to the Persimmon branch

Then down the various courses of said branch to Hitchcock Creek then up
the various courses of said Creek to the Beginning containing forty six
acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold to him the said
William H. Covington his heirs and assigns forever. And the said George
Northam for himself his heirs Executors Administrators & assigns do covenant
and agree to and with the said William H. Covington his heirs & assigns
forever, to covenant and defend the aforesaid described lands with every
of the appurtenances mines, minerals & every thing pertaining to the
same to the said William H. Covington his heirs and assigns forever In Witness
of which the said George W. Northam doth hereunto set his hand and seal,
day and date above written.
