This Indenture made this 7th day of July 1838 between Edmond Harper of the County of Sumner & State of Tennessee of the one part and Samuel W. Harper of the said County and had witnesseth that the said Edmond for and in consideration of the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty dollars to him the said Edmond paid by the said Samuel W. Harper the receipt which is hereby acknowledged before the signing of these presents hath this day sold granted and bargained and to the said Samuel W. Harper all his the said Edmond's interest right title and claim to his undivided fourth part of the tract of land on which (on which he now lives - marked through) William Harper died in the County of Sumner and which tract the said Wm. Harper by his will divided to his wife Rebecca Harper during her life and at her death to be equally divided between Samuel W., Benjamin Seawell Harper, John Parker and his wife Polly and the said Edmond Harper being from said tract containing about one hundred and sixty acres more or less to have and to hold the said one fourth of said tract encumbered with the life estate of said Rebecca to him the said Samuel W. Harper and his heirs forever and he the said Edmond covenants to warrant and defend the title of the said undivided fourth part of said tract of land encumbered with the life estate of the said Rebecca against the title and claim of all persons whatsoever. State of Tennessee, Sumner County - Personally appeared before me Thomas Donoho, Clerk of the County Court of Sumner County, Edmond Harper with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged the execution of the within Deed of Bargain and Sale upon the day bears date to Samuel W. Harper for his undivided fourth interest in the tract of land on which their father William Harper, died. Given under my hand at office this 7th day of July 1838.
