This indenture made this 22nd day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Six between Joseph McGlothlin Senr. of the County of Sumner and State of Tennessee of the one part and John McGlothlin of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth the said Joseph McGlothlin for and in consideration of the sum of Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars to him in hand paid by the said John Mcglothlin the receipt of which is hereby fully acknowledged have bargained sold and delivered unto the said John McGlothlin a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the county and state aforesaid on waters of Drake's Creek of Big Barren River and bounded as follows (viz) Beginning at a stake of white oak pointers a few poles south of the spring out of which said John McGlothlin uses running north one hundred and one poles to a stake and pointers thence east seven poles to a stake and pointers thence north fifty poles to a hickory on the south bank of Drake's Creek thence down said creek as it meanders to two scrub oaks north west corner to Tribble's thence south with Tribble's east boundry line two hundred and fourteen poles to a post oak said Tribble's south east corner thence east forty one poles to a small black jack Archibald McKinney's north east corner thence south twelve poles to a hickory and pointers thence east ninety seven poles to a post oak and pointers on John Bailey's west boundry line thence north with said line eighty five poles to a stake and pointers on the south boundry line of Taylor's original survey then east with the said line nineteen and a half poles to the beginning containing by estimation two hundred twenty five and three fourths acres more or less. Reserving out of the butts and bounds of said survey one fourth of an acre including the grave yard where Robert Taylor and his wife are buried. To have and to hold the described land and bargained premises with all and singular the rights and privileges to it belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said John McGlothlin his heirs and assigns forever and I the said Joseph McGlothlin Senr. for myself my heirs executors and administrators will warrant and forever defend the right and title of the aforesaid land from the just claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever unto him the said John McGlothlin his heirs and c forever. In testimony whereof I the said Joseph McGlothlin have hereunto set and affixed my seal this day and year first written and acknowledged in presence of the subscribing witnesses.

State of Tennessee - Sumner County October Term 1836
Deed of bargain and sale from Joseph McGlothlin to John McGlothlin for two hundred and thirty four and 3/4 acres of land was duly proven in open court by the oaths of James McGlothlin and Andrew McGlothlin subscribing witnesses and ordered to be certified for registration. Copy Test.

* Note by Barbara Owens: The Sumner Cemetery book on page 14-77 has a Taylor cemetery 2 miles south of Portland at the site of the old Taylor home. The McGlothlin's lived around Portland. Joseph McGlothlin Sr. married Robert Taylor's daughter Mrs. Polly (Taylor) West.
