To all to whom these presents shall come Greeting - August 1st 1789 Know ye that we pursuant to an act of Congressional Assembly entitled an act for the relief of the Officers and Soldiers of the Continental Line and for other purposes and in consideration of the Signal bravery & preserving zeal of John McMurtry a private have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto Col. Elijah Robertson a assignee of the said John McMurtry a tract of land containing Six hundred and forty acres lying and being in Our County of Davidson on the first waters of the first creek the first lien made by the commissioners in the year Seventeen hundred and Eighty three corsses running west from the East fork of Stones river Beginnning at two white Oaks about twenty poles East of the head of a large Spring, Reading Blounts corner runs with his line North sixty chains to a ceder said Blounts corner thence East one hundred and six chains seventy Links to a Mulberry thence South Sixty chains to a stake thence west one hundred and six chains twenty links to the beginning, as by the plat hereunto annexed doth appear together with all woods water Mines, Minerals herditaments and appurtences to the said land belonging or appertaining to hold to the said Col. Elijah Robertson his heirs and assigns forever Yeilding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from him to him may direct, provided always that the sd. Col. Elijah Robertson shall cause this grant to be  registered in the register office of our said County of ____ within twelve months from the date hereof otherwise the same shall be void & of non effect.  In Testimony whereof we have caused these Anx. Letters to be made patent and  our Great seal to be hereunto affirxed Witness Samuel Johnston Esqr. our governor Captain General and Commander in Chief at Edenton the 21st day of October in the 13th year of our independance and in the Year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and eighty Eight.
