Samuel Meredith To William McKnight - Deed - 80 Acres

This indenture made this eighteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one, between Samuel Meredith of the county of Lawrence & State of Alabama of the one part. William McKnight of the county of Wilson and State of Tennessee of the other part. Witnessed that the said Samuel Meredith for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said William McKnight, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath bargained sold conveyed & confirmed & do by these presents, absolutely bargained sell & confirm unto the said William McKnight his heirs & assigns forever. The following described tract or parcel of land situated, lying & being in the said county of Wilson & State aforesaid and bounded as follows; Beginning at a hickory, the South West corner of the tract of land whereon Wood Jones now lives, on running thence North eighty eight poles to a stake, thence East one hundred forty six poles to a stake, thence South eighty eight poles to a poplar tree corner to Stephen Cloyd, thence West to the beginning containing eighty acres & forty eight poles, it being part of a tract of land for five hundred & twenty three acres. Granted to Jacob Castleman deceased & conveyed by Benjamin Castleman to said Meredith. To have and to hold the said eighty acres & eighty eight poles, with all and singular, the hereditaments & appurtenance thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to the said William McKnight his heirs and assigns forever, & the said Samuel Meredith, hereby binds & obliges himself heirs & that he & they will warrant & always defend the before executed land & bargained premises free & clear of all manner of claim or claims thereto. State of Alabama - County Court of Lawrence County - January Term 1823. Samuel Meredith appeared in open court and acknowledged that he signed sealed & delivered the deed hereto executed to William McKnight on the day & year thereon named a copy. In testimony where of I have hereunto set my hand & seal of office at office January 6th, 1823. (Seal) John Gallagher, Clerk

I Peter W. Taylor Judge of the county court for the county of Lawrence, do hereby certify that John Gallagher whose name is above subscribed is Clerk of said court & that his attest above is in due form & that full faith and credit should be given to all his official acts as such.
