This indenture made and entered into this 23rd day January 1874 between John Welch of the County of Monroe and State of Kentucky

of the first part and William V. Payne of the County and State aforesaid of the second part (witness) That for and in consideration of the sum of Four Hundred and Thirty Seven Dollars in hand paid by William V. Payne the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath this day bargained granted sold and conveyed unto the said William V. Payne a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County and State aforesaid on the waters of Line Creek and bounded as follows: (viz)
Beginning on a Popular thence N. 59 W. 66 poles to a small black oak bush and black walnut thence N. 36 & 1/2 E. 180 poles to two small black oak bushes thence S. 59 E. 55 poles to a stone thence S. 43 E. 22 poles to a stone thence E. 18 poles to three Poplars thence S. 122 poles to two small black oak bushes thence W. 70 poles to a white oak and dogwood thence same course W. 50 poles to two chestnuts thence S. 31 W. 14 poles to the beginning containing one hundred and twenty four acres by survey be the same more or less. To have and to hold unto him the said William V. Payne and his heirs forever free from any and all claims whatever. I bind myself & my heirs to forever warrant and defend the title of the aforesaid land to the said William V. Payne and his heirs & etc. forever.

State of Kentucky, County of Monroe - I W. S. Maxey Clerk of the County Court of the County and State aforesaid certify this deed from John Welch and Sarah F. Welch his wife to William V. Payne was produced to me in said County on the 16th day of Feb 1874 by the parties and duly acknowledged by the said John Welch and Sarah F. Welch before me to be their act and deed. Whereupon I have duly recorded it and this certificate in said office this the 17th day of Feb 1874.
