Horn, Joab to F. G. Woodard - Title Bond
I Joab Horn of the County of Sumner and State of Tennessee have this day sold unto Felix G. Woodard of sd. County and State of Tennessee my frame dwelling house & lots adjoining and contiguous thereto situated in Gallatin on the street running in the direction of Cumberland river South and known in the platt of sd town of Gallatin as lot Nos 98 &99 & 100 & bounded on the North by ____ street on the west by the lots sold as the property of Wm. Henly and purchased by James Donnell on the South by Mrs. Eliza Watkins & on the East by the street running towards the river. As the consideration of sd. Purchase the sd. Woodard has this day executed to me one note for two hundred dollars due March 1st 1860 & the other for twelve hundred dollars due January 1st 1861.Now upon the payment of the above notes I bind myself my heirs & representatives to execute to the sd. Woodard or his assignees a warrantee deed in fee simple to sd. House and lots. Given under my hand & seal this 22nd day of February 1860.

Woodard, F. G. to W. H. Blackmore - Title Bond
I Felix G. Woodard bind myself to pay W. H. Blackmore the sum of six thousand dollars. The nature of the above obligation is such whereas the said Blackmore has this day purchased of me for the sum of three thousand dollars for which he has this day executed his two notes payable to wit the first note for the sum of eleven hundred dollars and bearing interest from date and due on the 1st of January 1861, the second note for the sum of nineteen hundred dollars interest from date and due on the 1st Jany 1865 both of said notes dated for certain town lots or parcels of land in the county of Sumner state of Tennessee in the corporation of the town of Gallatin known in the platte of said town as Nos. 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 in the part of said corporation known as South Gallatin bounded as follows on the North by cherry street, East by street dividing Woodard from Wright, South by John Parker, West by Water street making in all five lots. Now if I shall make or cause to be made to the said W.H. Blackmore his heirs or assignees a good and sufficient title in fee simple with general warrantee to said town lots or parcels of land upon his making the last payment for the same then this obligation to be void. This 1st of Feby 1860.

Baker, L. A. to Belinda C. Cole - Deed of Trust
Know all men by there presents that I, Levi A. Baker a Citizen of the county of Sumner and State of Tennessee have this day for and in consideration of the love and affection that I have for my daughter Belinda C. Cole of the County and State aforesaid I do hereby give transfer and convey to her during her natural lifetime for her special use and support and to be in no way liable for any debt or debts that may hereafter come against them the following negro Slaves and their increase to wit John aged 25 years and his wife Jane aged 26 years, Janes son Willis aged about 10 years and her daughter Cate aged about 8 years likewise Ransom aged 22 years and his wife Lotty aged 18 years and her son Isac about one month. After the death of my said daughter Belinda C. Cole I hereby give transfer and convey the fee simple estate in remainder of all said slaves and their increase to the children of Belinda C. Cole each child to have an equal share in the same. If any one of the children of said Belinda should die leaving heirs the said heirs shall be entitled to receive the share of their deceased parent. I further warrant and defend the title of the above named negroes to my daughter Belinda C. Cole and her children in the manner described above forever against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever. This December 27th 1859.

Tompkins & others to Agreement
We whose names are underwritten acknowledge ourselves held and firmly bound each to the other in the penal sum of two thousand dollars to be void when the following conditions otherwise to remain in full force and virtue that is to say whereas we the builders of and stockholders in the Bledsoes Creek Turnpike Road have by a resolution passed in a full meeting of said stockholders agreed to submit to them chosen from our own number to wit to James Blackmore, Joseph Miller, and J.R. A. Tompkins the duty of estimating the value of the work and labor done by each builder or contractor of said road on his respective section. Now we promise agree and bind ourselves to acqiesce in the estimate of the commissioners aforesaid upon the work and labor of each respectively and that certificates of stock shall be issued by the company and received by each one in accordance with stock estimate and we further agree that each stockholder or builder shall be bound to keep his respective section in good traveling condition and to do all the necessary work and repairing on such section at his own cost and expenses and that each one shall indemnify and save the company harmless from any costs expenses or dangers which may result from any public prosecution or private injury arising from the state or condition of his particular section. In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands & seals this 4th September 1851.

Hogans line 196 ½ poles to the beginning containing by estimation Eight acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold to Joseph B. Young his heirs and assignees forever. I warrant the title & agree to defend it against all persons whatever but this conveyance is made upon the express condition that if I or my representatives do pay to the sd. Joseph B. Young or his representatives the sum of nine hundred & ninety seven dollars & twenty four cents with the interest thereon up to the first day of September 1860 according to a note under seal this day executed by me to the sd. Know all men by there presents that I, E.G. Stewart have bargained and sold to C. W. Bonner the following property to wit one Red Cow marked with a half crop off the right ear one Red heifer with some white on her masked with a swallow fork in the right year one other steer mostly white with a swallow fork in the right year and one twenty four hour clock for and in consideration of forty five dollars to me in hand paid. Odom, J. T. E. to William R. Lane - Deed of Trust
I have this day bargained and I do hereby sell transfer and convey to William R. Lane my slave George aged twenty two years and Alice aged twelve years and my tract of land of about eighty acres situated in District No. 11 Sumner County Tenn being the same I received on a division of my fathers land and the boundaries of which are to be found in the decree of the Chancery Court in case of L. Baker vs. James Odom et als. This conveyance is for the consideration of five dollars and the other consideration hereafter mentioned. Now I am indebted to Joseph Wallace by four several notes given by me to J. F. Joyner and endorsed by him to said Wallace the notes are dated March 10th 1860 and one day after date and each for four hundred and twenty eight 75/100 dollars. Now if I shall pay off and satisfy said note on or before the 10th of November 1860 then this obligation to be null and void but should I not pay the same then the said Lane is to advertise said property according to law and sell the same for cash or a sufficiency to pay said debts and after paying said notes and the costs of this trust the balance if any is to be paid me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand March 12th 1860.

Medlin, G. L. to Bridges Young - Deed of Conveyance
For and in consideration of five dollars to me in hand paid and the other considerations hereinafter mentioned I have this day bargained and sold and do hereby transfer and convey unto Bridges Young two tracts of land lying in Sumner County Tennessee Dist. No 9 on the waters of Drakes creek one tract containing eighty acres more or less adjoining the lands of Thomas Smiths heirs on the north the lands of W. J. Montgomery on the South and the lands of Alexander Hogan on the west being the tract purchased of John Williams and for which my deed is on record in Gallatin and to which reference is made for the boundaries. The other tract containing seventy two acres more or less adjoining the lands of said Smiths heirs on the East and North the lands of Alexander Kirkpatrick & others on the South and my other tract on the west being the tract I purchased of James Perry and for which I have his deed on record in Gallatin and to which references made for a more particular description of the boundaries. I do covenant with said Young that I am lawfully seized of said land have a good right to convey it and the same is unencumbered I do further covenant and bind myself my heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend the right and title to said land unto said Young his heirs and representatives against the lawful claims of all persons whatever. I have also for the considerations herein mentioned bargained & sold to said Young the following personal property to wit two negroes one named Bill of dark color aged about fifteen years the other named Wesley of dark complexion aged about thirteen years also three grown work mules one a sorrel, one a blaybank and the other a dark brown color. Also two bay mares, also a black filly also a dark grey filly also two grey horses also a bay horse also a sorrel horse also two mare colts a year old this spring one a bay and the other a grey color. Also twenty head of cattle consisting of milk cows stock cattle yearlings and calves. Also fifty head of stock hogs consisting of stock hogs Sows and pigs. Also five feather beds bed clothing and bed steads one beauro Also a lot of lumber in the millyard at the Montgomery mill which I had a lease, said lot of lumber consisting of a lot of posts of different sizes, a lot of scantling a lot of weather boarding of about twenty thousand feet, a lot of inch plank of about thirty thousand feet, a lot of about forty thousand feet of sheeting and some remnants of other kinds. Also my account against Douglas and Co. for lumber sold at Nashville and the lumber on hand there. Also my mill accounts and notes and for blacksmithing I transfer all of my mill & blacksmith books accounts and notes and all due thereon the amounts when due and from whom due I am unable to specify but the books and claims will show and all of which will go into the possession and under the control of said Trustee. Also three large log wagons with the necessary running gear and harness therefor. I hereby transfer and convey all of the property before described unto the said Bridges Young and his heirs and warrant the title to the same unto the said Young against the lawful claims of all persons whatever. But this deed is made for the following uses and trusts that is to say I am indebted to Finis A. Taylor as Exct. of James Hutchinson and to which debt J. T. Montgomery is my security and said Montgomery has a judgement against me for about the sum of $1050 principal. Also by note to John Loper with Jordan Hackney my security for about the sum of $400 due also by note to William Martin with Jordan Hackney security for about the sum of $400 due about April next also by note to George Martin for about two hundred dollars not due also by note to Clark Taylor with Jas. Hutchison security for about $450 due the last of this year also by note to Marcus Kizer for about $300 with Whitmell Leggett security when due not recollected also I am indebted to Bryant Montgomery , John Montgomery, William J. Daniel O. Montgomery and Catharine Davis a sister of theirs and to the heirs of Thomas Smith for whom Bryant Montgomery is Guardian said cost mentioned indebtedness is by notes and accounts for rent of the Mills Timber & C. We have not had settlements and I am unable to specify said indebtedness with mere particularity I am also indebted to Macey and Hamilton of Nashville by note and account the amount I do not recollect not having settled but suppose it to be some $500 or $600 also to Hillman & Brother by note and account the amount of said indebtedness is not known also by note to Jordan Hackney for about $120 also by two notes to John Clendening for Timber the amount not recollected nor when due also by account to Anderson Wix with whom I have not had a settlement and the amount is not known also by account to the widow of Charles Ke? for balance for timber about $100 also by note to Albert Kelly about $100 now due also by note to William Graves with Brantlet Honeycut security for about $80 also by note to Henry Dillon or to his wife for about $215 now due also by note to William Young for about $400 now due also by account to said Bridges Young about $480 also by note to Henderson Parnel about the sum of $200 now due also by note to Robert Blair for about $140 with Wade Garrison security now due. I may be indebted to other persons by note or account which have escaped my recollection . If so I wish them included and the provisions of this deed to extend to all debts that I bona fide owe. I think my property and effects and notes and accounts etc. will pay all of my debts if rightly managed and not sacrificed and I am desirous that my creditors shall all be paid. Now I wish and direct my said Trustee Young to take charge of my books accounts notes and property conveyed to collect promptly all that is due me make settlements with my creditors allowing them on all claims any just and proper set off they may have. I also authorize and impower my said Trustee to sell any of said property with my consent at any time he may be able to get a fair price at private sale for cash or upon credit the credit not to exceed the time limited herein for a public sale. As said Trustee collects means from the accounts due or from sales made he is to pay the judgement in favor of J. T. Montgomery which is a lien upon the lands then he is to pay my indebtedness to himself then pay the debts on which persons may be bound for me as security. The other debts will stand upon an equal footing. If said Trustee does not succeed in making private sales of said property and paying off my indebtedness on or before the 1st of Jany 1862 then he is to advertise all the property conveyed remaining undisposed off and sell the same at public sale to the hightest bidder for cash and appropriate the proceeds to the payment of my debts or herein divested . The expenses of settling up the he will first pay out of the means. Given under my hand and seal this the 10th day of March 1860.

Stovall, R. M. & other vs. D. G. Clark & others
Be it remembered that a Chancery Court began and held for the county of Robertson at the court house thereof in the town of Springfield Tennessee on the first Monday in June 1859 present and presiding Samuel D. Frierson Chancellor for the fourth Division of Tennessee Miles S. Draughon Clerk and Master of said court and A. Randolph Sheriff of said county amount other proceedings the following were had and done in said court, to wit, Marcus R. Stovall & others D. G. Clark, Sarah Perkins, W. A. Lovell Admr. O. H. P. Duvall. Be it remembered that this cause came on for hearing before Chancellor Frierson upon the 8th day of June 1859 upon the pleadings proof in the cause where it satisfactorily appeared to the court that the Complts. having failed satisfactorily to establish their Equity to the remainder in the negroes Celia & Lucy Milly & William all children of Celia. It satisfactorily appeared to the court that Nancy Clark purchased at the sale under the decree of the Robertson County Circuit Court Celia and her child Lucy upon the 1st day of January 1853 for the sum $706.00 which purchase money was paid by her. The sale confirmed by said court and all of the heirs and distributed of George S. Clark dec'd divested out of them and vested in the said Nancy her heirs & assignees. The court is of opinion that the facts as well as the law of the case is with the Deft. That the Deft. Duvall acquired a good title to these small girls Lucy & Milly by virtue of his purchase from Nancy Clark by the payment of the consideration $600.00 and her bill of sale of the 19th Sept. 1855 and that Nancy Clark departed this life in the year 1857 having made her will which is proved in the county court of Robertson County by which she directs her debts to be paid and the remainder of estate after paying some Legacies of $10 each to be equally divided between Sarah Perkins & D. G. Clark and that the Deft. Wm A. Lovell is the administrator of said estate with the will annexed and that the said remaining negroes Celia & William is a part of the estate of the said Nancy Clark property under the will of the said Nancy. It is therefore decreed by the court that the complainants Bill be dismissed. That the attachment & Jurisdiction obtained in this cause be discharged and dissolved and that the Administrator Wm. A. Lovell receive into his possession and control said negroes Celia & child under the will of said Nancy Clark who will discharge his duties as Administrator with the will annexed. It is further decreed that the complainants and their security Washington Lowe pay the cost of this suit and fe fa issue. Thereupon the complainants foray an appeal to the next term of the Supreme Court at Nashville and it is allowed on their entering into bond and security according to law on or before August Rules.

Duvall which decree was rendered in said court at the June Term of the same 1859 and that said cause was carried by appeal to the Supreme Court at Nashville all which as appears of Record in my office in Book No 2 Pages 260 & 261. State of Tennessee Supreme Court December Term 1859
Present Judges McKinney, Caruthers, and Knight. M. R. Stovall & others vs. D. G. Clark et als decree
This cause came on to be heard before the Judges of the Supreme Court of Tennessee on the transcript of the Record from the Chancery Court of Robertson county and agreement of counsel on both sides on this the 25th January 1860 as well as on a former day of the term and it appearing to the court that neither in said Record nor in the decree of the Chancellor is there error. It is therefore considered by the court that said decree dismissing complainants bill be in all things affirmed and that the Defendants recover of the complainants and of W. Lowe their security the costs of this cause in this court and also the costs of the court below for all which let fe fa issue.

Snider & Hamilton - Sale of Patent to W. C. Blue
L. Sniders improved method of covering coffins patented October 4th A.D. 1859. Whereas Leonard Snider of Indianapolis in the County of Marion and State of Indiana did obtain letters patent of the United States for an "Improved method of covering coffins" which Letters Patent bear date October 4th A.D. 1859. And whereas the said Snider, on the 14th day of October A.D. 1859 by deed recorded in Liber _____ of transfer of patents in the patent office on page _______ assign and convey to himself and Charles G. Hamilton his entire interest in said Letters Patent for the United States. This indenture therefore witnesseth that we the aforesaid Leonard Snider and Charles C. Hamilton for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to us in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged do hereby sell and set over to W. C. Blue all the right title and interest which we have in said invention as secured to us by said Letters Patent for the Counties of Sumner and Wilson in the State of Tennessee and in no other place or places the same to be held by the said W. C. Blue for his own use and behoof and for the use and behoof of his legal representatives to the full end of the term for which letters patent are or may be granted as fully and entirely as the same would have been held by us. Boyles to W. Lovell - Deed of Trust
I Zacharia Boyles of the county of Sumner and State of Tennessee for the consideration of five dollars to me paid and the further considerations hereinafter mentioned have this day bargained and sold and do hereby transfer and convey to William Lovell of the county and State aforesaid the following personal property, to wit; 1 sorrel horse 1 gey mare 1 bay mare 1 yearling filly 1 yearling mule 1 buggy & harness twelve head of Sheep four head of cattle & three beds bedsteads & clothing to have and to hold the said personal property to the said William Lovell his heirs and assignees forever. I covenant with the said William Lovell that I am lawfully seized of said personal property that it is unencumbered and that I have a good right to convey the same. I do further covenant to warrant and defend the title said property to the said William Lovell his heirs and assignees against the claims of all persons whatever. But this conveyance is made for the following trusts and purposes and none other that is to say whereas I am indebted to Mrs. Louisa Jenkins in the sum of seventy dollars for rent of land due Jany 1st 1860 to Mrs. Susan Groves by judgement for about fifteen dollars to Robert Turner by judgement in the sum of fifteen dollars to Mrs. M.C. Barr by judgement in the sum of about ten dollars to L. Miller by note now due for about twenty three dollars to John Nealy agent for Mrs. Duncan one half of a note made by myself and Jesse Crafton for thirty dollars and ten cents due some time in June next. To John W. Malone by note for twenty dollars due the first of March 1860 To the estate of Jacob Young dec'd by note for twenty seven dollars now due upon which William Lovell is my security to Mr. Anthony by judgement of several years standing for about twenty dollars - to B Mason by note now due for about thirteen dollars. And whereas I am desirous to secure and make certain the payment of said debts, costs and all interests thereon. Now if I should on or before the first day of August 1861 pay or cause to be paid all of said debts, costs and interest thereon then this conveyance to be
