Bradley, John S. To Isaac McGlothlin - Bill of Sale
I have this day bargained and sold to Isaac McGlothlin for forty four dollars one sorrel horse about twelve years old and one brown mule colt. But the condition of this sale is such that I am indebted to said McGlothlin on a note now due for about the sum of forty five dollars and if I shall pay off and satisfy said debt within twelve months from this date then this sale is to be null and void, otherwise it is to remain in full force and effect and the property to belong to him. Proctor, L. P. To Vaughan & Son - Deed
Whereas I have this day executed to H. B. Vaughan & Son my note for $400 due one day after date with Baxter Smith & W. F. Andrews my securities. Now in order to secure and save harmless my said securities Smith & Andrew, I hereby convey to them the tract of land on which I now reside in civil District No. 2 Sumner County containing about 97 acres purchased by me of H. B. Vaughan & Son & adjoining the lands of Jones Lock & Wm. C. Vance on the South, Jas. Rankins on the North, L. Watson Scoggins on the East and Cumberland River on the West. To have and to hold to the said Smith & Andrews their heirs forever. I do further covenant that I am lawfully seized of said land and have a good right to convey the same and bind myself my heirs to warrant and forever defend the title the same. But this deed is made for purpose of securing & saving harmless the said Smith & Andrews from the payment of the mentioned note of $400 to H. B. Vaughan & Son. Now if I should pay off the same before the 1st day of April next then this deed to be void, otherwise the said Smith & Andrews are authorized to give legal notice and sell said land and apply the proceeds first to the payment of said note & costs of this deed and the balance if any to me. Odom, Eli To E. O. Elliott - Deed of Gift
For and in consideration of the love and affection which I bear towards m nephew Eli O. Elliott and further consideration of one dollar to me paid. I do hereby give grant and transfer to him all my stock in the Red River Turnpike Company the same consisting of, But it is a condition of this transfer that the said Eli O. Elliott should die without issue, I give the said stock in said Turnpike Company to Allice Joyner, the daughter of Jesse Joyner. State of Tennessee Sumner County - I John W. Franklin for the love and affection I entertain for my wife Mary Franklin, I do hereby give transfer and convey to her my negro girl Hinney aged about eighteen years and her increase, to have and to hold the same to the said Mary Franklin her heirs and assigns forever. I covenant and agree for myself and heirs to warrant and defend the title to the said negro girl to the said Mary Franklin her heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whatever this 24th day of September 1860.

For and in consideration of one dollar to me paid and the other considerations herein after named, I have this day bargained and sold and do hereby sell and convey unto Oliver P. Butler one dun horse age ten or twelve years, 1 bay horse 12 or 13 years old, 1 sorrel horse 12 years old, 1 brown horse about 13 years old, 1 gray horse blind, 1 sorrel mare about 8 years old, 1 gray filly 3 years old, 1 bay filly 4 years old, 1 sorrel horse 3 years old, 1 sorrel filly 2 years old, 1 sorrel horse colt 2 years old also 3 yoke of Oxen, 1 beef steer, 1 heifer white & red, 1 bull yearling, 3 cows & calves 5, 2 horse wagons & two sets of wagon harness, two plows, 2 straw cutters, 1 lot of rye unthrashed supposed to be 15 or 16 bushels, 2 Beauros, 1 pair of Balances, a lot of wood cut & in the woods & on the Rail Road supposed to be 500 cords, a lot of rails in the woods supposed to be 3 or 4000 about 3000 three foot boards also a tract of land lying & being in Sumner County containing one hundred acres being the same I purchased of the heirs of Mrs. Wallace, also a small tract containing six acres being the same I purchased of Page Stalcup and described in his deed to me also ten dry cow hides also about 40 acres of growing wheat and 15 acres of growing rye. And I covenant with the said Oliver P. Butler that I am lawfully seized of all of the above described personal property and land and have a good right to convey the same and I bind myself to forever warrant & defend the title to all and every part of said personal property and land to the said O. P. Butler his heirs. But this conveyance is made however in trust for the following uses and purposes and none other that is to say. I am indebted to S. R. Wilson in the sum of about fifty five dollars which is in an execution and levied in my property, I am likewise indebted to Mrs. Peyton in the sum of about $137.50, To --- Rascoe in the sum of $75, to Eli Odom forty five dollars all of which are in execution and levied on my property. I am also indebted to John Bryson in the sum of one hundred and seventy six dollars now due. I am also indebted to various other individuals

in different amounts upon a good many of which others are bound for me as security and being desirous to secure and make certain the payment of the debts above specified and save harmless my securities upon the other debts which if I shall fail to do on or before the expiration of twelve months from this time my said Trustee is to expose any or all of said property to public sale at such places as he shall designate after having given twenty days public notice and sell the same for cash and apply the proceeds to the payment first of the debts above respectively described in the order in which they are mentioned next to the payment of the debts upon which others are bound for me and if there should not be a sufficiency of means to fully indemnify all of my securities then and in that event said debts upon which there are securities are to be paid pro rata next to the payment of all my other debts if sufficient if not pro rata. The wood however herein conveyed is first to be bound for the payment of one hundred and seventy dollars to E. A. Bell who cut a large portion of the same my said Trustee however has the power and authority at any time when the safety of my securities or the interest of all the parties requires it to sell and dispose of any or all of said property either privately or publicly and apply the proceeds in accordance with the requirements herein set forth. It is further provided that the six acres of land herein conveyed shall be bound for the purchase money of the same yet due and my unpaid to Page Stalcup Sr. It is further provided that my said Trustee is to permit me to have the possession & use of any or all of said property so long as he deems the interest of my creditors not endangered thereby and no longer. For and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred dollars paid to us by Robt. C. Foster of Davidson County, Tennessee the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, we James Cartwright, Jacob S. Warner & wife E. J. Warner of the county of Sumner and state aforesaid and James Warner of the County of Hamilton of said State do by these presence bargain sell and convey unto said Robt. C. Foster a certain Negro girl slave by the name of Jane aged about twenty three (23) years and we warrant to said Robt. C. Whereas J. A. Blackmore has this day become our security upon a note payable to John L. Bugg, Clerk of the County Court, twelve months after date and dated December 5th 1859 in the sum of nine thousand six hundred and thirteen dollars, said note was executed for the negroes to wit: Emeline & child Letilia, Mary & her two children aged respectively 4 years & 18 months, Albert, Henry, Ellen, Harriet, Celia, Polk & Tom. Now in consideration of the said Blackmore having become our endorsers upon said note we do hereby convey to him all rights title & interest we have in & to said negroes to indemnity him the said Blackmore as our security as aforesaid. The condition of this conveyance is such that when we shall pay said note and thereby release said Blackmore as our security then this instrument to be null & void otherwise to remain in full force & effect. Cummings, also one house and lot in the town of Mitchelsville Sumner County and District No. 19 and known in the plat of said town as part of lot No. 2 adjoining the lot of W. P. Lucus it being my old store house lot. I also transfer and convey unto the said M. J. Lucus for the consideration aforesaid my present stock of goods, three beds, bedsteads, and clothing therefore on set split bottom chairs, 2 clocks, 2 Looking Glasses, one Bureau, 1 irontooth Harrow, 2 plows & gear, 1 buggy & harness, 3 head of horses, three head of cattle, 2 Jennets, 15 head of Sheep, one set of Blacksmith tools, 1 folding table, 1 small table. I do covenant with the said ------------ that I am lawfully seized of the land and other property before conveyed have a good right it and that the same is unencumbered. I do further covenant and bind myself my heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend the title to said property unto the said M. J. Lucus his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whatever. But this deed is made for the following uses and trust and for no other purpose that is to say I am indebted to Sarah Heersmans for the sum of about three hundred dollars, to Nancy W. Colley the sum of eighty five dollars by note due to H. D. McGlothlin the sum of about one hundred & twenty five dollars by note to Mrs. Mary A.
