uses and trusts and no other, viz, I am indebted to the Estate of William H. Solomon by the following notes, one for a thousand dollars due February 23rd 1856, credited by sixty dollars Feby. 12/57, one for fifty dollars due December 15th 1859, one for thirty seven dollars due November 3rd 1858, one for one hundred and five dollars due May 21st 1858, one for two hundred and fifty six dollars due August 13th 1858, one for two hundred dollars due July 14th 1858, one for fifteen dollars due in 1858, one for eighty two 42/100 dollars, and one for one hundred and fifteen dollars due Oct 4th 1856, the said notes are entitled to same credits and set offs, which I hold against the Estate of said W. H. Solomon, the amounts of which I cannot determine till I have a Settlement. I am also indebted to Burtese Ferrell, Guardian of the Hunt heirs by a note for four hundred dollars, with W. H. Solomon, as my security due sometime in 1859, also in a note to the Union Bank of Tennessee for four hundred dollars due in 1861, with Burnice Bender my security, also a note Jennett Hassell for four hundred dollars due in 1860 with Burnice Bender my security, also a note to Mrs. Mary Pepper for two hundred dollars given in May 1865, also an account of three hundred dollars due to the same and now due, also a judgment going to Mrs. Mary Joyner for about eighty dollars, and stayed F. A. Spores?, also two notes to Joseph Watcher?, one for same twenty eight dollars, and the other for about fourteen dollars, also one to Dr. F. A. Shell for thirty two dollars due Jany. 1865, also a note to Allen & Cantrell due in 1861, the exact amount not known, also one note to Dr. W. D. Haggard for twenty six dollars due in 1860, and also an account for thirteen dollars due Shell and Blakemore. The said Bender will proceed to collect the above notes, judgments, and satisfy equally the above named debts and the costs of the trusts, But if I shall pay off and satisfy the above named debts on or before the first day of September 1866, then this deed to be null and void and of no effect, but if the said debts are not satisfied by said time, then said Bender will immediately proceed to sell for cash all of the above named property of every description and apply the same equally to the judgment of the above named debts, in witness whereof I have set my hand this June 30th 1865. May 19th 1865 - This is to witness that Wyatt Perdue of Sumner County, and state of Tennessee, lets, leases, and grants for thirty three years (33) to E. M. Covington & Co. of Warren County and state of Kentucky, the sole and exclusive right to explore bore and mine for oil, salt water, coal, iron and other minerals in and upon the following lands, a certain tract of land lying and in waters of Drakes Creek and Straders Branch, being the same conveyed to one Daniel Perdue, to which deed reference is made for more particular description, is such to contain one hundred and ten (110) acres and adjoins the lands of Rastin Ray, lands of Thos. Hobday, R. L. Garrett, Harriet Perdue, W. E. Martin fort Blunt Road & Mitchellville, and the right to under let the whole or any part thereof also the right at anytime to remove all tools, engines and machinery employed in such work, and all rights of way necessary on said business, in consideration whereof said Wyatt Perdue shall receive one eight (1/8) part of all oil, salt, coal, and minerals obtained from said lands to be delivered on the premises and shall have the right

to prevent and stop such part from being removed and taken there from. Said boring and mining to commence at any time within (4) four years from this date, otherwise this lease to be null and void and both parties discharged from all it's obligations. May 19th 1865 - This is to witness that Elias Suttle of Sumner County and state of Tennessee let, leases, and grants for the term of thirty three (33) years to E. M. Covington & Co. of Warren County and state of Kentucky, the sale and exclusive right to explore, bore, and mine for all salt water, coal, iron, and other minerals in and upon the following lands, a certain tract of land lying on the waters of Sulpher Fork and Hobday's Branch, being the same conveyed by Moor Hobday to us to which deed reference is made for a more particular description, is said to contain one hundred (100) acres and adjoins the lands of Smith Mays and Elizabeth Hobday and the lands of John L. Turner & heirs, the lands of Richard Butt & W. Hobday past Blunt Road, said the right to underlet the whole or any tract thereof, also the right at any time to remove all tools, engines, and machinery employed in said work and all right of way necessary in said business. In consideration whereof said E. Suttle shall have and receive one eight (1/8) of all oil, salt, coal, and minerals obtained from said lands, to be delivered on the premises, and shall have the right to prevent and stop such part from being removed or taken there from. Said boring and mining to commence any time within (4) four years from this date otherwise this lease to be null and void and both parties to be discharged from all its obligations. Article of agreement made and concluded this 12th day of March A. D. 1865 between Emily D. Perkins & Thomas Barnard of the county of Sumner and state of Tennessee party of the first part, and C. C. Vanmeter & Co. of Bowlinggreen Warren County, and state of KY parties of the second part, witness that the party of the first part hereby agrees to lease and let hereby doth lease and let for the term of ninety nine years from the date of above written to the parties of the second part the exclusive privilege of boring and digging for and obtaining oil, salt water, coal, iron, and other minerals with the privilege of underleting on all that certain tract of land and being in Sumner County aforesaid and bounded as follows, to wit; Beginning at a hickory, running south 139 poles to Black oak, the S. W. corner of the original survey, thence E. 120 poles to a post oak, thence West to D...? Lane made by John Garrett & John Bart, 80 poles to white oak on Straders Branch, thence North the said Branch 74 degrees, East 33 poles to White oak, thence North 95 polls double black oak, thence West 66 poles to Black oak, thence North 73 polls to Black oak to the beginning containing one hundred and eighty four (184) acres be the same more or less, together with ground and timber for buildings and all other necessary purposes, the parties of the second part to have the privilege, to enter premises for the purpose of commencing operations, for the space of at any time within the space of (4) four years from date above written (otherwise this lease to be null and void) also to have all necessary right of way to enable them to carryon a legitimate oil and mining business. In consideration of these privileges hereby granted the parties of the second part, hereby promise and agree to levy to the party of the first part (10) ten percent of the net proceeds obtained of all the oils, minerals, & etc. sold or disposed of by the parties of the second part, so soon as the accounts of sales are rendered and proceeds obtained. It is agreed that if the parties of the second part fail to obtain oil other products and shall abandon the premises or upon the expiration of the term for which this lease is given, they shall be at liberty to remove all tools, engines, and machinery they may have placed on said lands. This is to witness that Martin Cooper of Sumner County and state of Tennessee; lets, leases, and grants for the term of thirty three (33) years to E. M. Covington & Co. of Warren County and state of Kentucky, the sole and exclusive right explore, bore, and mine the following lands. A certain tract of land lying on the head water Middle Fork of Drakes Creek, being the same conveyed to me by Preun? Perry to which reference is made for a more particular description is said to contain one hundred and forty two & 1/2 (142& 1/2) acres and adjoins the lands of A. Graves, James Carter, and Frank Davis, on the Franklin & Forte Blunt Road & Gallatin Pike, and the right to underlet the whole or any part thereof, also the right at any time to remove all tools, engines, and machinery & etc. employed in said work and all rights of way necessary in said business. In consideration whereof said Martin Cooper shall have and receive one eight (1/8) part of all oil, salt, coal, and minerals obtained from said lands to be delivered on the premises and shall have the right to prevent and stop such part from being taken or removed there from said boring. Said boring or mining to commence at any time within two (2) years from this date, otherwise this lease to be null and void and both parties to be discharged from all its obligations. In consideration whereof said Martin Cooper shall have and receive one eighth (1/8) part of all oils, salt coal, and minerals obtained from said lands to be delivered on the premises, and shall have the right to prevent and stop such part from being taken or removed thence from. Article of agreement made and concluded this 6th day of March A. D. 1865 between Henry House of Sumner County, Tennessee party of the first part, and C. C. Vaumeter & Co. of Bowlinggreen, Warren County and state of Kentucky parties of the second part, witness that the party of the first part hereby agrees to lease and let deed hereby doth lease and let for the term of ninety nine years from the date above written to the parties of the second part the exclusive privilege of boring and digging for and obtaining oil, salt water, coal, iron, and other minerals with the privilege of underletting all that certain tract lying and being in Sumner County aforesaid and bounded as follows (to wit) Beginning at a corner of Jeremiah Sarvers land , thence running with the widow Hills line, thence with Alfred Sarvers widows land, thence with James Houses line going round land, thence with Patsy Wrights land, thence with Perdue, thence with Joseph Meadows land, thence to the beginning, the foregoing tract lying on either side of Sulphur Fork containing four hundred and forty (440) acres be the same more or less, together with ground and timber for buildings and all other necessary purposes the parties of the second part unto have the privilege of cutting said premises for the purpose of commencing operation anytime within the space of four (4) years from date above written (otherwise this lease to be null and void) also to have all necessary right of way to in able them to carry on a legitimate oil and mining business. In consideration of these privileges hereby granted, the parties of the second part hereby promise and agree to pay to the party of the first part ten (10) percent of the net proceeds obtained of all the oils, minerals, & etc. sold or disposed of by the parties of the second part so soon as accounts of sales are rendered and proceeds obtained. It is agreed that if the parties of the second part fail to obtain oil or other proceeds and shall abandon the premises, or upon the operation of the term fro which this lease is given, they shall be at liberty to remove all tools, engines, they may have placed on said land. May 19th 1865 - This is to witness that Ralston Ray of Sumner County and state of Tennessee, lets, leases and grants for the term of thirty three (33) years to E. M. Covington & Co. of Warren County and state of Kentucky the sole and exclusive right to explore bore & mine for oil, salt, water, coal, iron, and other minerals in and upon the following lands. A tract of land lying on the waters of Drakes Creek Branch, being the same conveyed to me by Allen Bryant, to which deed reference is made for a more particular description is said to contain (148) one hundred and forty eight acres, adjoins the land of T. C. Hobdy, Samuel Bush, Mrs. King, Catharine Bush, T. Kirby, W. W. Lynch, J. Ray, Fredrick Perdue, Wyatt Perdue, the fort blunt & Mitchellville Road, and the right to underlet the whole or any part thereof also the right at any time to remove all tools, engines, and machinery etc. employed in such work, and all rights of way necessary in said business in consideration whereof said Ralston Ray shall have and receive (1/8) one eighth part of all oil, salt, coal, and minerals obtained from said land to be delivered on the premises and shall have the right to prevent and stop such part from being removed or taken therefrom said boring or mining to commence at any time within (4) four years from this date otherwise this lease to be null and void and both parties discharged from all its obligations. It is further agreed and understood that said Ralston Ray shall not be disturbed in the cultivation or enjoyment of said land except in so far as may be necessary the purposes above expressed and shall fully compensated for any wood or timber that may be used.
