I William C. Roney have this day bargained and sold unto Thomas Buntin for the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars to my Mother Leah Roney paid a negro woman named Margaret about 28 years old which negro woman Margaret I hold by a deed of gift to me made by my Mother Leah Roney to the remainder interest to said negro and I this day transfer and convey all my entire remainder interest in & to said woman Margaret and warrant said negro sound sensible and a slave for life this the 15th day of Oct 1858. Know all men by these present that we Leah Roney & William C. Roney of the county of Sumner and State of Tennessee have bargained and sold to Thomas Buntin of the county & state aforesaid a certain negro woman by the name of Margaret which negro woman we warrant to be sound and healthy and sensible & a slave for life which is at this time about 28 years of age, for the sum of seven hundred & fifty dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged & we do bind ourselves & heirs to warrant and defend the said negro woman to Thomas Buntin and his heirs against the just the just claims of all persons whatsoever claiming the same. Know all men by these that I John B. Fulks, Junior of the county of Sumner and State of Tennessee have this day for and in consideration of the love and affection I have for my wife Sabella Fulks have this day given & conveyed to her my entire interest title and claim to a tract of land deeded to me and to my children that is or may be born by my said wife Sabella Fulks. To have and to hold as her right and property as long as she is my wife or widow and at her decease or second marriage the right of the above mentioned land is to be in my children the above land having been deeded to me and my children by my father John B. Fulks, Senior and lying on the waters of Manskers Creek in District No. 8 Sumner County, Tennessee and bound bounded as follows. Beginning on a Beach the N. W. corner of the Slater's Chappel M. H. lot, Then with its N. b. line N. 81 degree E. 14 poles to a stake in Blakemores W. b. line, Then with it North 23 1/2 poles to a beach. Then N. 31 W. 45 poles to an Elm near the road, Then N 35 degree 15 poles to a Sycamore on the creek, Then up the creek N. 16 degree W. 11 1/2 poles to a large Sycamore, Then up the creek N. 53 degree W. 38 poles to a stake in the creek bed. Then North 7 poles to a beach (Harrissons) now G. F. Fulks corner, Then with his line West 10 poles to a small Sugartree his corner & Lassiters line, Then with it South 56 poles to two small Ashes G. F. Fulks corner of his other track, Then with his line being the summit of the ridge S. 74 degree E. 26 poles to two small Hickorys his corner, Then with his line East 44 poles to a Sycamore his corner, Then S. 41 degree E. 3 poles to a Sweet Gum near the mouth of the branch into the creek, Then down the creek again S. 68 degree E.30 poles to a Buck, Then S. 12 1/2 poles to the beginning. Containing fourty eight acres more or less I covenant and bind myself & to warrant & forever defend the title of said land to the said Sabella Fulks and her heirs forever against the lawful claim of all persons whatever. Wm. A. Gregory To Gillespie & Day - Bill of Sale

Know all men by these presents that I wm. A. Gregory of the first part for and in consideration of the sum eighty four dollars to be in hand paid by Marion Gillespie and Robt. Day of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold & by these do grant and convey unto the said parties of the second part their heirs executors & assignees my whole crop that I shall make including one field of corn by estimation eight or nine acres also my crop of tobacco between eight or ten hundred hills and this conveyance is intented to include any hay fodder or any other provender that I may gather. I also agree to cultivate and gather the said crop and to deliver the said crop after its maturity at any place or time that the said Gillespie and Day may designate. To have and to hold the same unto the said parties and their assignees executors and administrators against all parties whatsoever. In witness whereof I have her unto set my hand and seal. Weather, C. To B. Groves - Deed of Trust

I Charles Weatherbee have this day bargained and sold & do hereby convey to Bennet Groves and his heirs forever for the consideration of fifty dollars to me paid a house and lot at Mitchellville Station in the State of Tennessee Sumner County District No. 19 containing by estimation eight hundred square feet it being a part of lot of No. 7 sold by a decree of court in the case of Nancy W. Colly & Heirs and bounded as follows to wit. On the West by John Groves on the South by Atchison & Hargiss on the East by said Atchison & Hargiss on the North by the Lafayette Road. To have and to hold the same to the said B. Groves his heirs and assignees forever. I do covenant with the said B. Groves that I am lawfully seized of said house & lot have a good right to convey it and that the same is unencumbered. I do further covenant and bind myself my heirs & representatives to warrant and defend the title forever to the said house & lot & every part thereof to the said B. Groves his heirs and assignees against the lawful claims of all persons whatever. But this deed is made for the following trusts uses & purpose and no other to wit. I have this day executed my note to Wyat Perdue under seal and said B. Groves is my security for fifty dollars payable the first day of July next. I have also sold to said B. Groves my Tool Chest & set of Tools for the consideration aforesaid. Now if I shall pay or cause to be paid to Wyat Perdue his heirs or representatives the said fifty dollars with interest and all necessary costs, then this deed to be void but in case I do not pay or cause to be paid the sum the said Bennett Groves shall after giving twenty days notice expose to public sale to the highest bidder for cash the aforesaid house and lot and tool chest and tools and apply the proceed to the payment of said debt interest and costs and if any after paying same the balance to me. We obligate and bind ourselves our heirs representatives & to pay unto Mary Banes her heirs & at the death of the undersigned Sarah White the sum of three hundred dollars to be paid equally by us though each to be bound for the whole. This obligation is given in consideration of a adjustment this day made of a controversy about the settlement of the estate of Thomas White, dec'd. And it is agreed that there shall be a lien for the payment of this obligation upon the interest of the undersigned Thomas White on that portion of the land that shall be assigned to the undersigned Sarah White as dower. Trimble, T. C. To S. A. Randolph - Marriage Contract

This indenture made and entered into this third day of July 1860 by & between Sarah Ann Randolph of the first part and Thomas C. Trimble of the second part; Witnesseth that whereas a marriage is intended & contemplated soon to be had & solemnized between the said Sarah Ann Randolph & Thomas C. Trimble and whereas the said Sarah Ann Randolph is seized and possessed in her own right of the following slaves namely Hanney aged about thirty two years, Betsy aged about twenty four years, Josephine aged about sixteen years, Sarah aged about fourteen years, Mary aged about twelve years, Silas aged about nine years, Edward aged about four years, Peter aged about two years and Dennis aged about -- years all of which slaves by & with the consent & approbation of the said Thomas C. Trimble are in contemplation of said marriage settled upon the said Sarah Ann Randolph for her own proper use and benefit free from the disposition contracts liabilities of the said Thomas C. Trimble subject however to the following restrictions & limitations that is to say. (First) That in case of the death of the said Sarah Ann Randolph after the solemnization of said contemplated marriage leaving issue then and in that event the whole of said slaves and their increase to go to & be the property of such issue it being the result of said marriage. (Second) That in case the said Sarah Ann Randolph should survive the said Thomas C. Trimble without issue then and in that event she is to have the full power and authority to dispose of said slaves and their increase in such manner and to such persons as she may desire and wishes by will or otherwise. (Third) That in case the said Thomas C. Trimble should survive the said Sarah Ann Randolph she leaving no issue of said marriage then and in that event said slaves and their increase to go to and be the property of the said Thomas C. Trimble to him & his heirs forever. (Fourth) And it is further agreed by and between both the contracting parties that in the control & management of said slaves and their increase during the joint lives of the said Thomas C. Trimble and Sarah Ann Randolph the said Thomas C. Trimble is to act as Trustee. And the said Thomas C. Trimble doth hereby signify his assent to the provisions of this settlement and contract and doth covenant to and with the said Sarah Ann Randolph to permit her after the solemnization of said contemplated marriage to receive the hire & services of said slaves & their increase to her sole and separate use and benefit and not to interfere with said slaves & their increase otherwise than in conformity with the provisions of this settlement and contract.

Thompson, James To Wm. Culwell - Mortgage

I James Thompson have this day sold and do hereby convey to Wm. Culwell a stable horse stallion Montezuma for the sum of five dollars to me in hand paid. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas I am indebted to E. T. Seay in the sum of about seventy dollars with the said Culwell my security and to John L. Bugg in the sum of seventy five dollars with said Culwell my security to Wilson Weathered in the sum of fifteen dollars with said Culwell my security & I am further indebted to said Culwell the sum of eleven dollars. Now if I should pay the said debts by the 1st of June next then this obligation to be void, but if I should not pay said debts by the 1st of June 1861 then the said Culwell is authorized and empowered to sell said stallion after giving ten days notice to the highest bidder in 3 public places in the county and appropriate the proceeds of the sale to the payment of the above debts. I Ethelred R. Kerley have this day bargained and sold and do hereby transfer and convey to John L. Kirby for the sum of five dollars to me paid and the other consideration herein after mentioned all of my stock of goods consisting of all the tools and materials jewelry & necessary for carrying on the watch making & jewelry business, for a specification of which see schedule of stock on hand filed and made part of this deed, valued at about two hundred and fifty ($250) dollars, But this deed is made for the following uses and trusts and for no other purpose that is to say I am indebted to Carlile & Ewins of Philadelphia in the sum of about fifty dollars due September 1860, to Strop & Leneburger of New York about forty dollars now due, To Francis Badoux about the sum of thirty dollars due sometime in October 1860, To the firm of M. C. Bruce & co. Nashville, Tenn in the sum of eighteen dollars, Montgomery & Merrill of Gallatin, Tenn in about the sum of thirty dollars, Joyner & Co. about fourteen dollars, George Foster seventeen dollars, N. B. Hamilton thirty dollars, James Shaw forty dollars, J. L. Kirby eight dollars, Allen & Cantrell the sum of nineteen dollars. Now if I should pay these said debts by the 1st day of August 1861 then this deed to be void, but if I should not then the said John L. Kirby as trustee after giving ten days notice in writing at the court house door and other public places in the County of Sumner

and he the said trustee shall have full power to nominate and appoint an agent to carry on the business and account to him the said trustee for all sales & he the said trustee may expose the said stocks to sale for cash and appropriate the proceeds first to the payment of the necessary expenses and costs. Secondly to the satisfaction of the debts specified above and to pay the balance if any to me and the said agent is to be compensated for his services as agent. This the 1st day of August 1860. E. R. Weatherbee, C. To Dye, B. P. - Deed of Trust

State of Tennessee Sumner County - Know all men by these presents that I Charles Weatherbee of the county aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars in hand paid by Bruce P. Dye have this day bargained and sold & do by these presents release and convey to the said Dye his heirs and assignees forever a lot or parcel of land at Mitchelville Station in the State & county aforesaid District No. 19 containing by estimation 800 square feet it being a part of lot No. 7 sold by D. P. Hart & Hiram Kelly commissioners for the heirs of Nancy W. Colly under a degree of the Sumner Circuit Court and bounded as follows to wit; Beginning on a Rock N. E. Corner of said lot No. 7, thence South 40 feet with West boundary of said lot to a Rock, thence East 20 feet to a Rock, thence North 40 feet to a Rock on the South side of the Lafayette Road in the North boundary of said lot, thence with said line 20 feet to the beginning. To have and to hold the same to the said B. P. Dye his heirs and assignees forever. And I do covenant to warrant & forever defend the title to the said lot of ground against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever. I also convey to the said B. P. Dye one set of Carpenters & Joiners tools. But the conveyance is made for the following uses and purposes and none other that is to say. Whereas I am indebted to one Wyatt Perdue in a note of $50 executed about the 19th December 1859 and due July 1st 1860 and also in an account for hauling to Nashville amounting to $14.75 and as the said Perdue is bound for me as security to Nathan Bradley in the sum of $15 and also to Bolez Dinning in the sum of $33.60 & also to Jo Hobdy in the sum of $10 and also to Smith Webb in the sum of $12 and also to Bennett Groves in the sum of $6.25 for all of which said Perdue is bound as security. Now if the said debts and securities shall be paid off and discharged by the 1st day of September 1860 then this deed to be void. Otherwise the said Dye is authorized after giving ten days notice at 2 or more public places in the District & at the Station to expose the said lot of ground & chest of tools to public sale and dispose of the same to the highest bidder for cash and the said Dye after praying the costs of sale will pay off and discharge the debts above mentioned and pay the balance to the said Weatherbee if any. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 5th August 1860. Charles Weatherbee
