Saddler, W. W. To Alfred Groves - Deed of Trust
I have this day bargained and sold and do hereby sell and transfer unto Alfred Groves and his heirs forever for the consideration of five dollars and the considerations hereafter mentioned the following described tract of land containing forty acres upon which I now reside and lying in Sumner Cty. Tenn. Distc. No. 19 and bounded on the East by Eliza Jenkins on the South by Sanford Bernard on the West by George Tyree and on the North by Isaac and James Thompson also one buggy . I warrant the title of the above property to the said Groves and his heirs and assigns forever. But this Deed is made for the uses and trusts and no other that is to say I am indebted to Alfred Groves in the sum of one hundred dollars or __________ note and account, to Lucas & Jernigan in the sum of $35.00 cts. to Leon Miller the sum of $35.00 cts. to W. Lovell & Co. the sum of $30 and to Mason & Lovell the sum of $15.00 cts. and I am desirous of paying and securing the said debts and if I shall pay off and satisfy the said debts on or before the first day of October 1861 then this conveyance to be null and void otherwise to remain in full force and effect. And if not so paid then I direct my said Trustee Alfred Groves to advertise said property according to law and sell the same for cash the land to be sold without my right of redemption to be reserved. And after the payment of the cash of said trust I direct my said Trustee to pay going to him first and then pay off all the other said debts and if there is anything left to pay the same to me. Moore am to keep the Jennets and their increase well for twelve months and pay due attention to the breeding of the same to the best Jacks in the country and that the Jennetts and their increase are to stand as collateral security for the payment of the purchase money. Kirkpatrick, Hugh Snr. & Nancy Grizzard - Agreement
This article of agreement made & entered into this the 12th day of October 1860 by and between Hugh Kirkpatrick Senr. of the county of Sumner and Nancy Grizzard of the county of Davidson & all of the State of Tennessee Witnesseth that the said Hugh Kirkpatrick & Nancy Grizzard have it in contemplation to intermarry & have agreed to marry in a short time and in view of that event & in consideration thereof have agreed to certain settlements of their property and rights of property mutually as follows to wit. The said Nancy is to retain all her estate of every kind & all her rights of property just as she now does free from all claims thereto by the said Hugh his heirs executors etc. and the said Hugh doth hereby in consideration of said marriage renounce & relinquish to the said Nancy forever all his marital rights to her estate and to claim nothing thereof either for himself his heirs executors etc.. And the said Hugh doth also convey unto her the said Nancy five hundred dollars in cash a lot of two acres of ground in Goodletsville adjoining the Depot ground which is unimproved - one horse & buggy worth one hundred dollars one cow & calf one bedstead & furniture & one beauro. But the said five hundred dollars is not to be paid to the said Nancy nor the said lot of ground & other property to belong to her only in the event she survives the said Hugh & in such event & then only

the same is to be paid over to her out of his estate & conveyance of the property to be absolute and in the event said Nancy should die before the said Hugh then this conveyance of money & other property by him to her to be void & of no effect, but the same is to revert to him and they will in the event of her death before the said Hugh be entitled to no part of his estate whatever and she the said Nancy on her part doth for herself her heirs executors etc. renounce to the said Hugh in consideration of void marriage all claim or interest in his estate of every kind & in any event except the said five hundred dollars the said lot of ground & other property described with the conditions annexed thereunto.

Know all men by these presents that I Charles A. Carpenter in consideration of five dollars paid by A. J. Swaney have this day bargained and sold one sorrel filly, one year old last spring, and hereby convey the said filly to said Swaney. The above conveyance is made for the following uses & trusts and none others that is to say. Whereas Thompson & Co. hae obtained a judgement before Esqr. F. G. Haynes for about fifty dollars and the said A. J. Swaney has become my stay security. Now if I should pay said judgement when the stay expires which will be about the last of January 1861 then this conveyance is to be void otherwise said A. J. Swaney after giving ten days notice at two public places in Sumner County shall expose to public sale the said sorrel filly for cash to the highest bidder and after paying said judgement & costs shall pay the balance to me. Know all men by these presents that I Charles A. Carpenter in consideration of five dollars to me paid by A. J. Swaney have this day bargained & sold and hereby convey to sd. Swaney one sorrel mare ____ years old. The above conveyance is made for the following uses and trusts & none other that is to say whereas I am indebted to Mentlo & Swaney by account of eighty dollars for medical services and desire to secure the said Mentlo & Swaney for their services. Now if I shall pay said Mentlo & Swaney eighty dollars by the 1st day of October eighteen hundred and sixty one then this conveyance is to void. Otherwise the said A. J. Franklin of Sumner County state of Tennessee and the further consideration of one dollar to us paid, We have given granted & do hereby convey and transfer to the said John W. Franklin a negro woman named Leanna Jenning aged about thirty five years of black complexion & her two children Annette aged about seven years and Laura aged about five years both of copper complexion. To have and to hold the same as slaves to the said John W. Franklin his heirs and assigns forever. Cummings, Asa To Alfred Groves - Deed
of Trust
I have this day and bargained and sold & do hereby transfer & convey unto Alfred Groves & his heirs the following described property viz a town lot in town of Mitchelsville Sumner County Tennessee where the Depot is now situated and being the same upon which I now reside and being the same purchased by me of James Glass. It is on hundred feet by two hundred feet and is the same sold by Hart & Kelly as commissioners. I own the equitable title to the same, and it is that only that I here convey, which said conveyance is for five five dollars and the other considerations hereafter mentioned. That is to say I am indebted to Hart & Kelley as commissioners for the second payment of said lot and I am indebted to Alfred Groves for the sum of about two hundred dollars due by note & account and am desirous of securing the said debts. Now if I shall within two years from this date pay and settle off said debts then the obligation to be void. Otherwise to remain in full force and effect. And I direct my said Trustee if I do not pay said debts as before stated to advertise and sell said house and lot and after paying the cost of this trust then to pay off and satisfy the debts to Hart & Kelly commissioners to said Alfred Groves. The same to be sold for cash and the right of redemption is hereby waived by me. And if there is anything left after paying said debts then the trustee is to pay the balance to me. This October 22, 1860.
