Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Edgar Harris of Portland, a sister, Mrs. G. L. Butt and two nieces, Mrs. Irene Harris and Mrs. Lura Bender of Pueblo, Colo, one grand-son, Hugh Harris and a great-granddaughter of Portland. Bro. Austin, as he affectionately known to his legion of friends, entered the ministry at the age of 31 years. He preached his first sermon at the old Hall Town church where held the pastorate for 41 years. He retired from active pastoral duties on account of declining health about seven years ago. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and was buried with Masonic honors. Bro. Austin was the only son of the late Lieut. James T. and Malinda Brinkley Austin. His father was a cavalryman under the south's "Wizard of the Saddle" Nathan Bedford Forrest. In addition to his long pastor at the Hall Town church, he also served in the same capacity for the period of years at Salmons, Ky., and several other local churches, and during his active years he was always busy in the season of revival meetings. He probably performed more marriage ceremonies and preached more funerals than any other minister in this section of the county. Burial was at the Hall Town cemetery with Wilkinson Bros. Wiseman in charge.
