Mr. Joe Gibson.

Mr. Joe Gibson, one of Portland's most progressive farmers and citizens, died here Sunday, morning. For some weeks it had been given out that his health was delicate, but his friends were not advised as the serious nature of his illness, and the news of his death came as a profound shock. He was in every respect an upright man and citizen and sustained the confidence and respect of all classes. Mr. Gibson had been a successful farmer of this place for a number of years, and a few years ago commenced devoting his energies to the culture of strawberries. Mr. Gibson was 67 years of age and a member of the Christian church. He leaves a wife, one son, Mr. Dortch Gibson, and one daughter, Miss Annie Mary, three brothers, and one sister. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church by Prof. Blaine and Hon. J. T. Baskerville of Gallatin, after which his remains were laid to rest in Portland cemetery.
