Aged Woman Killed As Auto Turns Over - Calhoun Times - Dec. 2, 1926

Mrs. Parthena Hales, 97, perhaps the oldest woman in Gordon County, died Thursday afternoon as the result of an automobile wreck. She had been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Rhoda Pendley, in Cobb County Thursday morning and her grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Pendley, had started with their grandmother up to Gordon County, where she made her home with another daughter, Mrs. Martha Scott, near the Murray County line, South of Adairsville the car skidded and turned over, pinning Mr. and Mrs. Pendley under the car and seriously bruising their grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. Pendley were not seriously hurt, but Mrs. Hales died soon after she reached home. She is survived by five son's, D. C. of Oklahoma; S. G. Hales of Chattanooga; R. A. Hales, Gordon County; J. T. Hales Fort Payne, Ala.; three daughters, Mrs. Rhoda Pendley, Bartow County; Mrs. Martha Scott, Gordon County, and Mrs. Barbara Couchmaise, of Gordon County. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at Coosnwatee Church, Rev. G. D. Legg officiating and interment in the cemetery there.
