E. M. Foster

E. M. Foster, 79, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sam Moore, North Water Street, Sunday at 6:30 o'clock of pneumonia. He is survived by his wife; one son, M. C. Foster, of Birmingham, Ala.; daughters, Mrs. George Bedonia, Birmingham, Ala.; Mrs. W. M. Stone, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. W. A. Lovell, Nashville, Mrs. Sam Moore, Gallatin; two brothers, Tom and Mallory Foster, Columbia; and a sister, Mrs. James Potette, Columbia. The burial occurred at Columbia with funeral services at 2 o'clock p. m. Monday afternoon.

Miss Myrtle Mae Frye  

On Wednesday morning, February 18th, at 9:15, the death angel again visited the home of Mrs. Wm. Frye, three miles out on Woods Ferry Pike, and took from their circle their beloved invalid daughter and sister, Myrtle. She was born November 7th, 1895, in the same house in which she died. She leaves behind her to mourn her loss, her mother, three sisters and three brothers, namely: Mrs. Emma Frye, Mrs. Ben Hurt of Hendersonville, Mrs. Emma Mayberry, Miss Willie Belle Frye, Walter Frye, Sr., C. G. Frye, and Ed Frye, all of Gallatin, and a host of other near and dear kindred and friends, who miss her more than words can express, but we all are submissive to God's divine plan, for we realize that he doeth all things well. In Memory.

On Thursday morning, February 19th, 1931, at 7:45, death came, sought a loved one in our community when Mr. John M. Wright breathed his last as an answer to the still. He was born April 16th, 1874, being fifty-six years, ten months and three days old when called from his earthly home. He was married to Miss Lou S. Wright, February 16, 1900, who died August 8, 1927. Mr. Wright is survived by his four sons and one daughter, Johnnie, James, Porter, William, and Annie Lucy Wright, also one sister, Miss Mat Wright. A Friend: L. E. B.

Mrs. Amanda Boren.

Portland, March 4. - Mrs. Amanda Boren, aged 82, died Saturday morning at the sanitarium at Fountain Head. She is the widow of J. M. Boren. The burial took place, Sunday, March first, at 2 o'clock at the Portland Cemetery. Services were conducted at the Methodist Church by the Rev. J. O. Estes. She is survived by two children, Chas. Boren and G. B. Boren, both of Portland. She moved to Portland five years ago. Most of her life was spent in Allen and Simpson Counties, Ky. She was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

C. B. Denning.

C. B. (Boley) Denning, prominent citizen of the 13th District, died at noon, Thursday, March 5th, 1931, at his home near Sengtown. He had been ill for about three weeks. The deceased was born and reared in the 13th District. He was the eldest son of the late Esquire A. B. Denning. He is survived by one sister and one brother, as follows: Mrs. Alf Bell and Kirk Denning, both of this county. The burial occurred at 2 o'clock p. m., Friday, at Green Lawn Cemetery in Franklin, Kentucky.

Mrs. D. B. Anderson

Mrs. Laura Moore Anderson, widow of the late Captain David B. Anderson of Gallatin, died at noon Tuesday, March 10th, 1931, at her home on East Main Street, age 81 years. The deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. William Moore, prominent citizen of Gallatin. She was born and reared here. Captain Anderson died eleven years ago. The following children survive: Mrs. Kate A. Miller, Mrs. W. N. Lackey and Mrs. Leslie M. Ross of Gallatin, and Tom M. Anderson of Washington, D. C. She is survived also by one brother and one sister as follows: Jesse Moore and Miss Nettie Moore, both of Gallatin. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Charles S. Ramsay, will be held at the residence at 10:30 o'clock a. m., today (Thursday). Burial will follow at the Gallatin Cemetery. The following will serve as pall bearers: E. B. House, John B. Swaney, F. A. Woodward, John T. Franklin, George W. Pardue, Sam Lackey, C. B. Brown and Ed Albright.

Westmoreland.

Funeral services for J. W. Escue, 58, prominent citizen of Sumner County, who died at his home near Westmoreland following an illness of several years, were conducted from the Liberty Church, Friday, February 20th. The Rev. J. T. Neal officiated, assisted by Rev. Ed Troutt and Rev. W. H. Neal. Mr. Escue, who has been a member of the Presbyterian Church for fourty-four years, also an elder for about thirty-five years, is survived by his wife, Mrs. J. W. Escue, and three daughters, Nettie Mae Escue, Syvesta Escue of Westmoreland, and Margaret Escue of Mt. Pleasant. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

In Memory.

In loving remembrance of our dear uncle, S. K. Barnes, who departed this life February 17, 1931, in Troy. The deceased was born near Cairo and lived here until twenty-nine years ago when he went to Troy to make his home. He was married to Miss Florence Wood at Troy, who survives. He is also survived by nine children as follows: Mrs. Cecil Warren and Ruth Barnes of Memphis, Clarence and Woodrow Barnes of Penn., Willis, Robert, Mary, Louise, Paul, and Ralph Barnes of Troy. He leaves three brothers and two sisters as follows: Mrs. Kate Terry of Bowling Green, Ky., Mrs. Anna Anglea of Gallatin, Messrs. Tom and Jim Barnes of Gallatin, and Charlie Barnes of Troy. The funeral was held at his home. The interment was at Obion Chapel Cemetery. His niece, Martha Barnes.

Mrs. W. T. Blue has returned from St. Louis, where she was called by the death of her nephew, Billie Merritt, who was killed in an automobile accident.

Red River Road.

Mrs. C. G. Hassell attended the funeral of Miss Edith Lanier in Franklin, Ky., recently.

Poor Health Suicide Cause - Walter Wallace Dies By His Own Hand Here Sunday Morning.

Walter Wallace, known to his many friends here as "Jockey" Wallace, cut his throat with a razor at 11:30 o'clock Sunday morning at his home on Hallum Street near the Gallatin Depot. Mr. Wallace was 52 years old and was born and reared in this community. He was a son of William and Julia Downs Wallace. He is survived by his wife and six children. Also by one brother, Bert Wallace. The burial occurred at the Gallatin Cemetery at 10 o'clock a. m. Monday. Funeral services were conducted at the cemetery chapel by Rev. L. S. Sedberry.

Mrs. Bettie Parris Dies in Florida.

Mrs. Bettie Parris, age 73 years, widow of the late John Robert Parris of this county, died Friday morning, March 13, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Warren, in Ocala, Florida. Mrs. Parris was a daughter of the late Captain Henry Day and was born and reared near Rogana in this county. Her husband died about 17 years ago. Surviving are five daughters: Mrs. John Warren of Ocala, Fla., Mrs. M. H. Thornhill of Eagle Lake, Fla., Mrs. Arthur Robinson of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. John Kerr and Mrs. Joseph Kerr of Hartsville, Tenn.; and three sons, C. M. and R. H. Parris of Nashville, and Claude Parris of Gallatin. She is survived also by three sisters: Mrs. W. A. J. Simpson of Gallatin, Mrs. Frank Lewis of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Julia Parris of Stroud, Oklahoma. The remains arrived at Gallatin at 9 o'clock Sunday night. Funeral services were conducted at the Gallatin Church of Christ at 2 o'clock p. m. Monday, by Rev. H. L. Olmstead assisted by Rev. T. C. Singleton of Nashville. Burial followed at the Gallatin Cemetery.

Johnnie McMurrey, colored, formerly of Gallatin, died suddenly Monday, March 16th, at his home in Indianapolis. His death is supposed to have resulted from heart failure. He was about 38 years of age. The deceased is survived by his wife and by an uncle, George McMurrey, of Gallatin. The burial took place at Indianapolis where he had resided for 16 years.

In Memory.

Mrs. Mary L. Rippey was born January 1, 1846, departed this life March 10, 1931, age 85 years, 2 months and 10 days. She was the daughter of Tom and Rosetta Rippey. She was married to James W. Rippey in 1864, who departed this life eight years ago. To this union was born eight children, four boys and four girls, all of whom survive her except one, Charles A. Rippey. Those surviving her are: Noah, Hershel and David Rippey, Mrs. Mallie Clendening, Mrs. Mag Fleming, and Mrs. Ida Rippey, all of this and surrounding communities, and Mrs. Pollie Boren, of Phoenix, Arizona. She is survived also by one sister, Mrs. Amanda Holmes, forty-one grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, and a host of friends. Aunt Lou, as she was known in her community, was a kind neighbor. A Friend.

White Hill.

On March the first, 1931, the death angel knocked at the door of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. McMurtry and took their little grandson, Earl Carver, Jr. He was 16 months old. He and his mother made their home with Mr. and Mrs. J. B. McMurtry, during his life. A Friend.

Donald Henry Killed In Gun Accident.

Donald Henry, son of the late Harry D. Henry, was killed at his home in Mangum, Oklahoma, one day recently by the accidental discharge of a gun. Details of the accident are not known here. The deceased was 18 years of age. He is survived by his mother.

Jesse F. Clemmons.

Jesse F. Clemmons died at 10 o'clock p. m., Tuesday, March 17th, 1931, at his home at Austin, Indiana. The deceased was born in Indiana on June 2nd, 1871. On February 9th, 1902, he married Miss Lizzie Taylor of South Tunnel, this county. The greater part of his life was spent in Indiana  and in Tennessee. He was a Spanish American War veteran, having been a member of Company E, 161st Indiana Regiment. There survive, his wife and two sons, as follows: Lloyd Clemmons of Austin, and William Clemmons of Flat Rock, Indiana. He is survived also by one brother, Walter Clemmons, of Flat Rock, and by two sisters, Mrs. Maude Frye of Austin, and Mrs. Carrie Arbuckle of Seymore, Indiana. The burial took place Thursday, March 19th, at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, near Austin, with military honors. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Early Keith, a life long friend of the family.

Mrs. Kate Dorris.

Mrs. Kate Dorris, age 72, died at her home, three miles east of Portland, Monday, March 16th. Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist Church Wednesday by Rev. Ed Troutt of Gallatin. Burial at the Portland Cemetery. She is survived by four children, three children, three sons and one daughter, Jesse, Carl Hershel, and Mrs. Zora Groves, all of Portland. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Frank H. Stone.

Francis Henry Stone died Friday, March 6th, 1931, at his home on the old Howard Stone homestead north of Gallatin in the 9th district. He was born July 26th, 1879, and was reared in the community in which he died. The burial took place at the old Stone burying ground, with funeral services by Rev. Ed Troutt. The deceased is survived by one sister, Mrs. George Baulch, and by two brothers, John Stone, with whom he lived, and James Stone of Louisiana. His death resulted from heart disease.

Mrs. Laura Ann Brown.

Mrs. Laura Ann Brown of near Sulphuria departed this life on Sunday night at 7:15 after an illness of several weeks of influenza. She leaves a husband, five sons and three daughters to mourn their loss. She will be greatly missed in this community, and especially by her afflicted daughter. A Friend.

Brackentown.

Leonard Escue of Robertson County was brought to his old home place near Brackentown for burial Thursday, March19. Mr. Escue was 89 years of age and is survived by one daughter and five sons and some grandchildren.

Mrs. Queen Anthony of Oklahoma died Thursday, March 19. Mrs. Anthony was a citizen of Brackentown for many years, and leaves many relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

Brackintown.

Virgle Mayes died at his home at Rapids, Ky., Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, of double pneumonia.

Westmoreland.

Walter D. Mullins was called to his home near Shelbyville last week end by the death of his brother-in-law.

Miss Lallie McWhirter was called to Memphis, Tenn., last week by the death of her brother-in-law, Mr. Black.

Martin Howell, an aged and respected citizen, died at his home on the Epperson Springs Pike at an early hour Monday morning, March 23rd. Mr. Howell suffered a stroke of paralysis several days ago and had been very sick since. He is survived by his wife and two sons, John and Albert Howell, both of Westmoreland, and several grandchildren, with a number of relatives of this section. Interment was made Tuesday at Siloam Cemetery.

Hendersonville.

Mrs. Nora Gore has returned from Akron, Ohio, with her brother's baby. It's mother died several weeks ago.

Shackle Island.

Mrs. Annie Grimm of Saundersville has been with her brother, Ben Taylor, for quite a while, during the last illness and death of Mrs. Taylor.

Personal.

Oscar Smith has returned from Senatobia, Mississippi, where he attended the funeral and burial of his brother-in-law, Arthur Slayton.
