Mrs. Bessie E. Creasy died Sunday, July 10 at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital, she was 85. Mrs. Creasy is survived by 2 sons, Rev. Arnet Creasy of Gordonsville and Woodby Creasy of Westmoreland. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday July 12 at 3 p. m. at the Alexander Funeral Home with burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

W. G. (Cully) Caldwell, age 84, a resident of Route 4, Westmoreland, died Tuesday, July 12 at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital in Gallatin. The retired farmer was a member of the Westmoreland Church of Christ, a member f the Trammel Lodge No. 436 in Westmoreland and a 32nd degree Mason. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Law Caldwell of Westmoreland; one daughter, Mrs. Ann C. Newman, Princeton, New Jersey; and one son, Guthrie Durham Caldwell, Springfield, Mass. Two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Bashaw, Westmoreland, and Mrs. Mary Harper, Carrollton, Texas also survive. Other survivors even grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, July 15, at 11 a. m. at the Westmoreland Church of Christ with burial in the Haysville Cemetery in Lafayette. Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Young Stinson, a resident of Whiteland, Indiana died in Indianapolis at age 68. Mr. Stinson is survived by his wife, Lattie Mae Johnson Stinson also of Whiteland, three sons, David of Brownsburg, Ind., Wilburn of Indianapolis, and William of Franklin, Ky., one brother, Roy Stinson of Petal, Miss., and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday July 20 at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland with burial in the Eulia Cemetery.

Man believed murdered near Westmoreland by Michael Patton
"We've got a murder," said Allen County coroner Lex Carter Tuesday afternoon after returning from Louisville where an autopsy was performed on the body of 52 year old Vernon Woods. Woods badly decomposed body was discovered Monday morning between Holland and Fountain Run on the farm of Ray Gibbs off Highway 100. The News has learned that Woods' murder is believed to have taken place near Westmoreland in Sumner County and that a number of individuals with knowledge of the incident have been questioned by Kentucky and Tennessee law enforcement officials. Kentucky State Police detective Larry Pitcock told The News late Tuesday afternoon that the investigation in the case had already turned up a prime suspect and an arrest was expected. Pitcock said the individual would be charged by the Sumner County Sheriff's Department. Loggers working near the Gibbs farm discovered Woods' body early Monday morning and notified the Allen County Sheriff's Department which is cooperating in the investigation. The body is believed to have been left exposed in the open field for some 10 days as police believe Woods was murdered the night of Friday, July 29. The body was decomposed beyond recognition and positive identification had to be established by Woods' fingerprints. Carter called in forensic expert Dr. David Wolfe and Kentucky's chief medical examiner David Jones, both from Frankfort, and the pair was at the scene late Monday night assisting in the investigation. Tuesday morning, Carter along with Pitcock and Sumner County Criminal Investigator, Don Badacour were in Louisville when pathologist Dr. George Nichols performed the autopsy determining the cause of death as gun shot wounds to the chest. Woods was shot in the chest three times and two of the bullets were recovered from the body.

Floyd Gregory, age 85, died August 8, 1983 at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of Route 4, Westmoreland and was a member of the Turner's Station Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Lassiter Gregory, Gallatin; four sons, Berry Ray Gregory, Westmoreland; Thomas M. Gregory, Harold L. Gregory and Gerald A. Gregory, all of Gallatin; one brother, G. B. Gregory of Union City; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday August 10 at 2 p. m. at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland with burial in the Crestview Cemetery.

Harry Summers, age 69, a resident of Route 1, Westmoreland died Monday, September 5, at the Brandywood Nursing Home in Gallatin. He was retired from the Tennessee State Highway Department and a member of the New Hope General Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillian F. Summers; three daughters, June Rippy, Goodlettsville; Reba Kelly, Gallatin, Effie L. Rippy, Cottontown; two step-daughters, Henryetta Beasley, Gallatin and Martha Satterfield, Nashville; and two stepsons, J. W. Faulton and John M. Faulton, both of Westmoreland. Other survivors include a half-sister, Maxine James, Jackson, Georgia; and two step-sisters, Pauline Summers, Gallatin and Orine McCormick, Westmoreland. Seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 7, at 11a. m. at the New Hope General Baptist Church with burial in the Bradley Cemetery. The Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

Martha Cammie Stinson, age 79, Portland, died Sunday, September 11, at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Portland First Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Weaver Stinson, Portland; one sister, Heathie Summers, White House and two grandchildren. Funeral services were Tuesday, September 13 at 2 p. m. at the Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

Charles F. Creasy, age 85, died at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, September 6. He was a resident of Westmoreland. He was Past Master of the Westmoreland Methodist Church, a member of Trammel Lodge #436 F & A. M. for 50 years and served 18 years on the Sumner County Board of Education. Survivors include three brothers, John Silas Creasy, Westmoreland; Phillip Creasy, Gallatin and James Creasy of Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 8, 2 p. m. at the Westmoreland Methodist Church with burial in the Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery.

Marjorie L. Born, age 77, died at the Highland Hospital on Friday, September 9. She was a resident of Bethpage and a member of Liberty Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband, John W. Born, Bethpage; one son, John Born. Westmoreland; one brother, James Bell, Westmoreland; and one sister, Mrs. Essie A. Perry of Gardenia, California. Funeral services were held at 11 a. m., Monday, September 12 at the Alexander Funeral Home with burial in the Forrest Chapel Church Cemetery.

Burley Knight, age 92, a Bethpage resident, died Monday morning, September 19, at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital in Gallatin. The Macon County native was a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, Vangie Knight, Bethpage; one daughter, Mrs. Odell Templeton, Bethpage; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 21, at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland with burial following in the Eulia Cemetery.

Mrs. Annie Ruth Cannon, Route 3, Westmoreland, died Tuesday, September 20 at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. She was 58. Survivors include her husband, Floyd (Joe) Cannon; her mother Myrtle May Key; three daughters, Mrs. Carol Borders and Mrs. Judy Meadors, both of Westmoreland and Mrs. Sandra Street of Hendersonville; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Billy Key of Louisville, Ky.; Tommy Key of Florida and Harold Key of Bowling Green; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Stahl of Indianapolis, Ind. and Mrs. Linda Chasteen of Westmoreland. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 22 at 11 a. m. at the Alexander Funeral Home with burial in the New Hope Church Cemetery.
