John D. Gregory (son of William Gregory and Mary "Polly" Epperson Gregory) was born in 1808. In 1861 he enlisted in Nashville, Tn. as a private in Company B 18th Tennessee Confederate Infantry which was composed of Sumner Co. men and he trained at Camp Trousdale. According to his military records he died in the Confederate Camp at Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1861. His records state that he was in a hospital before he died. In a 1955 newspaper article written by Cal Gregory of Smith County, Tennessee family legend states that John was accidentally scalded to death. When soldiers died at this camp if they were claimed their bodies were sent home and if not they were buried in Bowling Green in several different locations. We do not know exactly what happened to John but with the help of Mr. Stephen Lynn King of the Bowling Green Sons Of Confederate Veterans a memorial marker was set up for John at the unknown Confederate section of the Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky in June of 2003.
John and Sarah had 12 children:
1. William Alexander Gregory was born on January 31, 1837. He was a private in Company E 24th Tennessee Confederate Infantry. He was shot in the left foot at the Battle of Perryville, Ky. and carried off the field by Sumner Co. comrade, T. J. Moncrief. He served the remainder of the war as a hospital nurse meeting trains full of wounded soldiers. After the war his leg and foot perished away and he died in Westmoreland, Tn. on August 25, 1904. He is buried in the Gregory Cem. in Westmoreland, Tn. He married Nancy Elizabeth Day on Nov. 11, 1854 in Sumner Co.

3. Nancy E. Gregory born 1840.
4. Mary Ann Gregory born in 1842. Married Jeremiah Belt.
5. John B. GREGORY was born on 26 Mar 1844 in Sumner Co., TN. He died on 29 Dec 1916. He was buried in Sulphur Springs Cemetery, , Simpson Co., KY. He was married to Harriett Ellen ODELL (daughter of RICHARD ODELL and Frances) on 30 Jan 1868 in Simpson Co., KY. Harriett Ellen ODELL was born on 17 Dec 1848. She died on 16 Jun 1937 in Sulphur Springs Cemetery, Simpson Co., KY.
6. James K. Polk Gregory born 1845 and died in 1932 in the Sumner Co. poor house.
7. George Moses Dallas Gregory born June 30, 1846. He married Mary Ann
Eunice Hughes. He died on March 20, 1926. They are buried in the old cemetery
in Gallatin, Tn.

8. Marcus L. GREGORY was born in 1849 in Sumner Co., TN. He was married to Isabelle RAMSEY on 22 Jul 1869 in Sumner Co., TN. He died on 16 Apr 1885 in Trousdale Co., TN. He was buried in Buckeye/Lauderdale Cemetery, Trousdale Co., TN. Isabelle F. RAMSEY was born in Nov 1851 in Sumner Co., TN. (Isabelle F. 9. Sarah W. Gregory was born in 1851. She married Landon Carter. She died June 25, 1889.
10. Thomas J. Gregory born 1854. He married Louisa Margaret Saterfield. He died before 1926.
11. Louisa Gregory born in 1856.
12. Andrew Jackson Gregory born in 1858.

John D. GREGORY was born in 1808 in KY. He died in Bowling Green, Ky. and his memorial marker is in the Fairview Cemetery, Warren County, Kentucky. He was married to Sarah "Sallie" HARPER (daughter of Edmond HARPER and Elizabeth S. MARTIN). Sarah "Sallie" HARPER was born in 1819 in TN.

2. Margaret L. GREGORY was born in 1838 in Sumner Co., TN.
3. Nancy Elizabeth GREGORY was born in 1840 in Sumner Co., TN. She was married to John GREGORY (son of Archibald GREGORY and Mary LATHAM). John GREGORY was born about 1835 in Castalian Spring, Sumner Co., TN.
4. Mary Ann GREGORY was born in 1843. She was married to Jeremiah BELT. (See Jeremiah & Mary Belt Petition, 1889.)
5. John B. GREGORY was born on 26 Mar 1844 in Sumner Co., TN. He died on 29 Dec 1916. He was buried in Sulphur Springs Cemetery, , Simpson Co., KY. He was married to Mary Ann Eunice HUGHES (daughter of George HUGHES and Elizabeth "Betsy" WALKER). Mary Ann Eunice HUGHES was born on 23 Aug 1844 in Sumner Co., TN. He was married to Margaret Louise Kathryn SULLIVAN (daughter of Andrew SULLIVAN) in 1875/76. Margaret Louise Kathryn SULLIVAN was born in Aug 1855. She died before 1926. She was buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Robertson Co., TN.
