John McGlothlin was a son of Joseph McGlothlin, Sr. John married Rebecca and they lived in Sumner County, Tennessee, where he died intestate in 1841.

John's father, Joseph McGlothlin Sr., deeded a gift of 83 acres of land to John in 1817.

In 1837, John bought two hundred twenty five and three fourths acres from his father, excluding a one-fourth acre graveyard where Robert Taylor and his wife were buried.

John McGlothlin is enumerated on the census of Sumner County for the years 1820, 1830 and 1840. After his death in 1841, John's wife Rebecca, age 60, appears as Head of Household on the 1850 census of Sumner County with two of their four children, son Henry, age 27, and daughter Nancy, age 24.

John and Rebecca's four children were Isaac McGlothlin, Joseph McGlothlin, Henry D. McGlothlin and Nancy R. McGlothlin.

1. Isaac McGlothlin, son of John and Rebecca was born about 1815 in Sumner County, and was married twice, to sisters Sina and Martha House, daughters of Henry House.

Isaac and Sina House married in Sumner County December 8, 1835. Two children were born to this union: Elvis H. McGlothlin and Caroline D. McGlothlin.

Elvis H. McGlothlin was born March 24, 1837 in Sumner County and died January 19, 1872 in Warrick County, Indiana. Elvis is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Warrick County. He was married twice and had three children. Elvis married 1st Martha N. Aust November 17, 1859 in Warrick County, Indiana. Martha died January 24, 1864, she is buried at Selvin Cemetery, Warrick County, Indiana. Elvis married 2nd Josephine Spradlin February 12, 1864 in Warrick County. Their three children were Sina A., Joseph Henry Lee and Emma J. Elvis served with the 143rd Indiana Infantry during the Civil War.

Caroline D. McGlothlin was born April 11, 1841 in Sumner County. Caroline married William J. Wyatt in Sumner County February 1, 1859. She died October 1, 1918 in Warren County, Kentucky. William J. Wyatt was born in North Carolina March 28, 1833. He died August 23, 1902. Caroline and William are buried at Fairview Cemetery, Bowling Green, Kentucky. Known children of Caroline and William Wyatt are William, Joan and Charles Wyatt.

Isaac married Martha House June 4, 1845, in Sumner County. They both died in Sumner County in 1862. Six children were born to Isaac and Martha: Joseph H. C., Mary F., Martha, Amanda, Isaac and John B. McGlothlin.

2. Joseph McGlothlin, son of John and Rebecca, was born about 1818 in Sumner County. Joseph married #1 Milly C. Hamlin in Sumner County July 18, 1836. Joseph and Milly divorced.

Joseph married #2 Rachel E. McAdams in Sumner County March 3, 1839. Rachel was born ca 1820 TN, daughter of John McAdams. Joseph died in Sumner County in 1889. He and Rachel had seven children: Henry, John W., James P., Isaac Newton, Walter A., Andrew J. and Martha A.

Henry McGlothlin, son of Joseph and Rachel, was born about 1840 in Sumner County. Henry was a Confederate Soldier, serving with the 30th Tennessee Infantry. He was captured at Fort Donelson, exchanged, and paroled at Albany, Georgia, in 1865. Henry, age 32, lived with his parents in Sumner County in 1870. Henry was deceased by 1880. He was not married.

John W. McGlothlin, son of Joseph and Rachel, was born about 1842 in Sumner County. John was a Confederate Soldier, serving with the 30th Tennessee Infantry. He was captured at Fort Donelson, exchanged, and died from pneumonia December 14, 1864, at Newnan, Georgia. John is buried in Confederate Soldiers Section No. 21 of Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia. He was not married.

James P. McGlothlin, son of Joseph and Rachel, was born November 17, 1844 at Portland in Sumner County. James married Louisa (Lou) Stovall, daughter of Marcus R. and Mary Stovall, December 3, 1869 in Sumner County. During their married life James and Lou lived in Portland, Tennessee; Franklin, Kentucky; Bowling Green, Kentucky; then moved back to Portland, Tennessee. Their only child, Flora McGlothlin, was born October 20, 1870 and died April 12, 1884. James P. McGlothlin died in Sumner County July 11, 1933. Louisa died July 7, 1945. James, Louisa and their daughter Flora are buried at Green Lawn Cemetery, Simpson County, Kentucky.

Isaac Newton McGlothlin, son of Joseph and Rachel, was born November 28, 1849 in Sumner County. Isaac married Mary Jane Hobdy, daughter of J. B. and Louisa (McGlothlin) Hobdy, in Sumner County January 9, 1873. In 1880, they lived in Simpson County, Kentucky. They moved to Pueblo, Colorado in 1887. Isaac died in Pueblo January 3, 1936 and Mary Jane died in Pueblo February 24, 1896. Both are buried at Roselawn Cemetery, Pueblo, Colorado. Their four children, Leanora, Louise, Newton Lee and Ruth, were born in Simpson County, Kentucky.

Walter A .McGlothlin, son of Joseph and Rachel, was born September 10, 1852 in Sumner County. Walter married Clara Tatham, daughter of John Tatham Sr. and Ellen (Taylor) Tatham. Walter and Clara had two sons, Harry Tatham McGlothlin and Ray McGlothlin. They lived in Simpson County, KY, Sumner County, TN and Nashville, Davidson Co, TN. Clara died at Nashville March 19, 1932.

Andrew Jackson McGlothlin, son of Joseph and Rachel, was born January 8, 1854 in Sumner County. Andrew married Clara Bruns December 18, 1902 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Clara was born May 2, 1878 in Cincinnati to Richard and Elizabeth (Helling) Bruns. Andrew and Clara lived in St. Louis, Missouri, where Andrew died suddenly April 6, 1919. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Clara eventually moved back to Cincinnati where she died January 1, 1956. Andrew and Clara had no children, although her niece lived with them for several years.

3. Henry D. McGlothlin, son of John and Rebecca, was born about 1823 in Sumner County. Henry was a Confederate Soldier in the Civil War. He was captured at Fort Donelson, TN, and was a POW at Camp Butler, Illinois and died there March 5, 1862. Henry is buried in Space #35 of the Confederate Section at Camp Butler National Cemetery near Springfield. He was not married.

4. Nancy R. McGlothlin, daughter of John and Rebecca, was born September 19, 1825, Sumner County. Nancy married J. B. Hobdy January 28, 1860 in Sumner County. Nancy died December 20, 1907. Nancy and Joseph are buried at Old Fountain Head Cemetery, Sumner County. Nancy and Joseph B. had eight children. His first wife was Nancy's cousin, Louisa McGlothlin.
