Jim SCRUGGS was born in 1863. Jim SCRUGGS and Janie SUDDARTH were married in 1883. Janie SUDDARTH was born in 1862. She is still alive in 1920 on the Trousdale Census living with son Grant. Janie is listed as being a widow. There is a discrepancy with Janie's surname. On one son's funeral home record and obituary, she is listed as Janie SUDDARTH, and on another son's funeral home record, she is listed as Jannie STAFFORD.
Jim SCRUGGS and Janie SUDDARTH had the following children:
1. William Thomas (Billy) SCRUGGS Sr. was born on 27 May 1884 in Trousdale County, TN. He died on 23 Jul 1958 in Vanderbilt Hospital. He was buried on 24 Jul 1958 in Old Brush Cemetery, Portland, Sumner County, TN. William Thomas (Billy) SCRUGGS Sr. and Bertha Maybell TURNER were married on 14 Apr 1909 in Trousdale County, TN. Bertha Maybell TURNER (daughter of James TURNER and Parlee GILIHAN) was born on 11 Jan 1894 in Trousdale County, TN. She died on 16 Apr 1973 in Auburn, Logan County, KY. She was buried in Old Brush Cemetery, Portland, Sumner County, TN. On Bertha's marker the death year is 1972, but family members say the year is really 1973.
2. Ada SCRUGGS was born in Sep 1886.
3. Nannie B. SCRUGGS was born in Nov 1889.
4. Grant SCRUGGS was born on 23 Nov 1893. He died in Jul 1956. Grant SCRUGGS and Lassie GROSS (daughter of Doc GROSS and Patsy COLEY) were married on 1 Sep 1923 in Sumner County, TN. Lassie GROSS was born on 17 Jun 1905. She died on 12 Aug 1995 in Fairfield, Shelby County, IN. She was buried in New Crown Cemetery, IN. Lassie GROSS SCRUGGS was married second to Harry SMITH.
5. Ella Mai SCRUGGS was born on 2 Sep 1897. She died on 19 Nov 1956 in Sumner County, TN. She was buried in Old Brush Cemetery, Portland, Sumner County, TN. Ella Mai SCRUGGS and Robert I. HELMONTALLER were married on 3 Mar 1917 in Sumner County, TN. Robert I. HELMONTALLER was born on 30 May 1896. He died on 25 Nov 1959 in Sumner County, TN. He was buried in Old Brush Cemetery, Portland, Sumner County, TN.
6. Della SCRUGGS was born in 1898 in Trousdale County, TN. Della SCRUGGS and G. R. BASKERVILLE were married on 3 Jul 1913 in Sumner County, TN.
7. Mattie SCRUGGS was born in 1905. Mattie SCRUGGS and Charles JOHNSON were married on 9 Dec 1916 in Sumner County, TN. Charles JOHNSON died before 1920.
8. Hattie SCRUGGS was born in 1905.
