William Wright SURRATT married Amanda Harris TWILLER on
20 Aug 1849, in Tishomingo Co., MS. [P-1]
In "Goodspeed's History of Arkansas" published in 1890 says Henry's father
was born in 'FRANCE', [P-2]
but this is in error. Henry's father William Wright SURRATT
was born in ALABAMA and his father Jacob SURRATT, was born in North Carolina.
In the 1900 Census, William W. was living with Henry and he was 75 years old.
Apparently his wife was deceased.

HENRY SURATT, Captain
of police at Fort Smith, was born at
Corinth, Alcorn Co. Miss., June 12, 1850 and is a son of WILLIAM
and AMANDA (HARRIS) SURATT. The father was born in France, and
came to America with his parents, who settled near Huntsville,
Madison Co., Ala. where he grew to manhood. In 1844 he married,
and in 1872 came to Arkansas, locating at Arkadelphia, Clark Co.,
AR. where he still lives.
He served throughout the entire war.
Capt. SURATT attained his growth in Mississippi, and early in
life engaged in farming near Corinth. He served two years during
the war in Company A, 19th Tennessee (Confederate) Cavalry,
commanded by Col. JEFF. FORREST.
After 1870 he farmed in Arkansas
5 years, and then for 9 years clerked for WILLIAM BREEN at Forth
Smith. He then was employed as receiving and billing clerk by
ECHOLS & JOHNSON for 2 years.
In 1885 he was elected city
marshal, which position he held 2 terms, or until made captain of
the police. Mr. SURATT married Miss BELLE HARRISON daughter of
WILLIS HARRISON, of Alcorn County, MS., a descendant of Gen. W.
H. HARRISON. His parents, LUKE and MARY HARRISON, were from
Ireland, and early settlers of Alabama. They died in Alabama.
To Mrs. and Mrs. SURATT three sons and two daughters have been born:
