Looking for James H. Surritte/Surratt
Dated: October 03, 1998 at 14:35:05:
I have been researching my "Surritte" surname for some time and have hit a wall with my G-Grandfather, James Hamilton Surritte, b. 1820 in TN (according to my Maternal G-Mother) and died 1910 in Platte Co, MO. Census records do not support the information I have but have found James H. Surrett and James H. Surratt in TN and MO (at the proper times through census lookups). Any information/ideas/help would be deeply appreciated.
Jerry Surritte, E-Mail: [email protected]
Jerry,
You are the 1st person I have contacted with from the old Abraham SARRATT Family.
Your James Hamilton SURRITTE, could be the James H. SARRATT b. 1821 of Campbell Co., TN. married c1850 MO. Martha J. SPRATT, 8Ch. If so he would be the 2nd son of James,4 & Nancy (CAMPBELL) SERRETT ..prs

Paul,
I was delighted to get your reply to my question about the Surritte Surname. After looking at your email and the somewhat limited information I have, there does seem to be a connection to James Seret and on back to Joseph Sarrett and Katherine. We (my wife Shirley and I) have not worked on our genealogy much these past several years. Had to take time out and raise a family and such. I am planning to retire (maybe semi) next June and move back to MO where our families are located. Now in San Angelo, TX. Hopefully I will be able to find much more time to devote to research and learn more about the genealogy game at that point. I am going to include all I have on James Hamilton Surritte and his wife Martha Jane Spratt below. The dates and names match almost perfect with what you sent. I show somewhat different birth dates for both James H. and Martha J. Anyway here it is and hopefully you can determine if the connection is there. Cheers and let me hear what you think.. Hi Paul,
In reply to your letter, yes Ronnie is James "Gail" Surritte's son. I have alot of info. on this branch of the Surritte family. There is still alot of info. that I don't have yet, but am working on it. I have my info. on the Family Tree Maker 7.0 and can send via e-mail if you want it. Sorry I didn't respond to your last e-mail. My computer crashed and lost everything, including my ISP for about 10 days. I still get e-mail from people that I didn't respond during that time. Since then, I have been very busy remodeling and working and haven't been able to devote much time to anything until now. I will send you what I have on the FTM 7.0 if you can download it. It is accurate.
Ans: Yes, I would like the info. on this family. It is best for me for you to send it in a GEDCOM format. Your FTM can export to this format. ..prs ..prs

Paul, In case you haven't found the last name of Catherine it appears to be Brooks.
My grandfather was John William Surritte
with brothers
Henry Clay Surritte,
George W. Surritte,
sisters Pearl and
Irene Surritte.
I assume you might be kin to some of these.
I secured Henrys Social Security Number application since I couldn't find my grandfathers SSN and secured the names of their parents.
Hope this helps. You might be a cousin. Who knows.
What I don't understand is how John Columbus Surritte [fg 2156] could be father to both George W. Surritte and his wife Addie also.

Paul, I found the work you have done on the Surratt, Surritte, etc ancestors to be amazing and will save me a large amount of time in my ancestry request. Thanks for all the work you have done. I have a question concerning George Washington Surritte and Virginia Demeurice Callahan.
My grandfather, John william Surritte was brother to a George Surritte who lived in Oklahoma. Their parents were John Columbus Surritte and Kathern M. Brooks per Social Security Records -not James Beauregard Surritte.
I'm wondering if your George Washington Surritte and mine are the same. Per census records for 1920 and 1930, the children of George and Vergie tie together except for Gladys, born 1915, and Emory Holly, born 1922. These two children could have died prior to the relevant censuses.
Do you have a place that I might search to determine the correct father of each of our George Washington Surritte?
Thanks. Sadie in Dallas, Texas [email protected]

Esther Adeline Bryson b: August 11, 1881, Zaleski, Vinton Co., OH (Newhouse) married George SERRITTE in Oklahoma City, OK, on March 28, 1914. They had two daughters,
Irene b: Mar 10, 1915, Oklahoma City, OK and
Veneta Lavon b: Jun 16, 1919, Kansas City, KS.
I have been looking for this family with no success. I am having quite the time with the spelling of George's last name...

We can't find this family in the 1920 or 1930 Census.
Do you have a birth date and or County, State where George was born?
We have a George SURRITTE, b. 16 Feb 1881 (SSD# Issue TX) d. May 1969, in Dallas, TX. that we can't account for. ..prs

2nd E-Mail: Date: 27 Feb 2004 11:44:26 AM Pacific Standard Time Paul,
Thank you so much for your reply.
My family information is that Esther Adeline Bryson first married a Newhouse, 28 Aug 1899 in Salina Kansas and divorced Feb 1914. She then married George "Serritte" in Oklahoma City, OK, on March 28, 1914. She did NOT wait a long time to remarry!! Their first daughter was born in Oklahoma, but their second daughter was born in Kansas.
My family is located in the Kansas City, Kansas area. Esther Adeline's siblings grew up in Ottawa, Kansas. So I have found family scattered in the northeast part of Kansas and in Kansas City, Missouri area.
SINCE you e-mailed me I searched for SUrritte and found: Esther A. Surritte b: 11 Aug 1881 OH d: 19 May 1961 San Francisco CA California Death Index, 1940-1997
This is my family member! I have nothing on George - and obviously the spelling given to me of his last name wrong.
The only "clue" I have is the marriage information from my family and my family records that his first daughter was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 10 Mar 1915... So I "assume" that they lived in Oklahoma... then went back to Kansas, as their second daughter was born 16 Jun 1919 in Kansas. You wrote:
