Canton, [Haywood Co., NC.] - Rev. Ralph McKinley Surrett, age 90yrs, of Canton,
died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late
William and Leona (Sams) Surrett
and was also preceded in death by two daughters:
Linda (Surrett) Trull
Sue (Surrett) Collins.
He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and was retired from
Champion International with 38 years of service and was a rock
mason and sang bass with the Surrett Trio.
Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Nellie Worley Surrett;
three daughters,
Wilma (Surrett) Freeman,
Jean (Surrett) Willis
Grace (Surrett) Chapman of Canton;
a son, Ralph Surrett Jr. of Canton;
two sisters,
Elsie (Surrett) Whitsen of Seattle, WA.
Inez (Surrett) Worley of Fredericksburg, Va.;
a brother, Frank Surrett of Waynesville;
and 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the
Revs. Gene Worley and Jack Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Wells Funeral Homes in Canton.
The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
