During the American Civil War, Captain Jacob ZIBELIN enlisted
in the Union Army on June 22, 1861, at Jefferson Barracks and
served in the 2nd Missouri Infantry Volunteers, in Company K
and I, 2 Regiment. He fought at Reinzi, [Alcorn Co.] Mississippi and Pea Ridge,
[Benton Co.] Arkansas. [on 03 Mar 1862]
He served 3 years and 3 month when he mustered out on Sept 04, 1864,
St. Louis, Mo. with a Disability-Rupture.

She was born to Armond (sic Almond) A. Surratt and Jane H. Kilpatrick, on June 05, 1844,
in Rutherford Country, NC. They moved to and lived in Canetuck Township,
Pender County, Point Caswell, NC, where he operated a blacksmith
and wheelwright shop.
Other (1850,60,70 & 1880 Census) records show Laura E. SARRATT was born near the Surratt's Creek Plantation
in old Spartanburg Dist. of South Carolina, not Rutherford Co., NC...
(Her Mother Mrs. Jane H. (Kilpatrict) SARRATT was born in Rutherford Co., NC.)
Census 1870 & 1880 list Jacob's Occup. as "Farmer".

The family story goes, that John Jacob ZIBELIN met Laura Eugenia Sarratt
working in a hospital for wounded southern soldiers and to show his Yankee contempt,
he intentionally knocked over a pile of clean linens she was folding and she slapped
the pudding out of him. Evidently, they hit it off since they got married on
August 23, 1864.
Note:
What "Hospital" and where was it located? No USA hospitals were
located in Whitfield Co., Georgia
