Dear Paul,
My name is Doug Sarrett and I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I just visited your website and found it to be very informative.
I know virtually nothing about genealogical research, but am interested in finding some information on the origin of my family. My grandfather (died 1932) left West Virginia and came to Oregon in the early 1900's.... possibly around 1905. I have very little direct information, as my aunts and uncles have been deceased for several years, and my grandfather passed away the same year my dad was born.
If you would be kind enough to provide me some direction in this regard, I would be most appreciative.
Respectfully
Doug Sarrett, [email protected]
Doug,
Thanks for the E-Mail
Your Grandfather that died in 1932, OR. what was his Name? Who was his wife; Children, dates etc.
We (SFA) have a lot of SARRETT's in West VA. and some in OR., but need to get back to prior 1920 (privacy act) before our 40,000 database is any help.
To start research and record "Census Records, please see my "Howto" & "Tips" on this stuff. Howto or goto my homepage, Goto Census, Goto "Howto" ..prs

Dear Paul,
My grandfather was Charles Bernard Sarrett (aka Birdy Sarrett). As I mentioned, he came to Oregon shortly after 1900 and died in there in 1932, probably in the late summer or early fall. I believe he was 60-62 years old at the time, which puts his d.o.b. somewhere around 1870-72. I am fairly certain that my grandfather was an out-of-wedlock child, and that he kept his mother's surname of Sarrett. I think he married before he came to Oregon. His wife's name was Ida Laverty and I believe she also came from the same area of West Virginia. She was considerably younger than Charles and eventually remarried and later died in Oregon in 1959.
I looked through some of the census records, but couldn't find anything that appeared to be a match. Respectfully
Doug Sarrett, [email protected]
Doug,
I believe your Grandfather is: See: Charles Bernard SARRETT, (a.k.a. Bird, Birdie, Birdy) (he was a son of Perry Hedric THOMPSON & Mother: Viola Frances SARRETT.

Dear Paul,
Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner, but running my own small business is sometimes rather hectic. Thank you for the help and the info on my grandfather, Charles B. Sarrett. I was shocked at how much you were able to peice together.
I look forward to getting an opportunity to do some more follow-up. If you ever get in a bind and need to locate a live person, let me know. I have access to some restricted databases that may be able to help. For various reasons, I would not be able to do this frequently, but can usually make an exception for special cases. Doug Sarrett, [email protected]
Doug,
No Problem, just glad I could help.
Do you have any info. on the children of C.B. "Birdy" & Ida Jane (Lafferty) Sarrett) Would like to add to my SFA database. ..prs Have not hear from Doug, since 09 May, 2001

New genealogy and Oregon lookup/research site
Date: 26 Feb 2002 12:50:08 AM Pacific Standard Time
http://www.historicaloregon.org/
This is a new site that has been started by a group called Historical Oregon Information Services. It is a non-profit group to help individuals and groups access information about Oregon and it's history. Our site includes free services such as "look-ups" on Oregon, newsletter and a guest book. We also have books at low prices covering Oregon cemeteries, Oregon towns and World War II. At Historical Oregon Information Services we hope that this may be of some use to members of your group.
Our "Look-Ups" on Oregon page covers towns, rail stops, ferries, stage stops, hard rock mines and schools as well as other types of places in the state of Oregon. In the future we will have cemeteries also listed. In most cases we have included any of the above listed items that pertain to the location name. This, however, is an ongoing project and updating our files is being done constantly. Under the name of the location, in most cases, we have the county in which it is located, Post office, Rail Road, location and any pertinent information regarding the location name.
Our newsletter is sent out bi-weekly and has information pertaining to Oregon and its history. In the newsletter we cover such things as name changes, multiple places with the same name, postal changes, new links, information about a place and other pertinent information about groups and their activities.
We have link pages on genealogy and Oregon history. These links are listed in alphabetical order under appropriate headings. There are pages for genealogy and Oregon history with more headings to come in the future.
At Historical Oregon Information Services we would also like to include any information regarding web pages, meetings and e-mail services pertaining to your group. We would be happy to include any of this information in our newsletter and or link pages for anyone that is interested.
Thank you for your valuable time. We hope that this site can be of some benefit to you and or your group members in the event that any questions about Oregon arise. We hope to hear from you or anyone in your group, if you have any need for information on Oregon, in the future. Thanks again.
