Benjamin HUGHES was born Jan 10, 1782 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia, son of
William & Nancy (BOWERS) HUGHES. He came to the present-day Cleveland County with
his parents when he was no more than a teenagedyoun man. Circumstances tend to indicate
that he was married twice; First, around 1902-3 to a girl whose name we haven't found.
He had a son by this marriage, Young HUGHES who
probably lived with his Grandparents, William & Nancy (BOWERS) HUGHES according to
the 1810 Census Records.

Benjamin HUGHES second marriage, which was about 1807-08 was to 
Nancy BRIDGES daughter of James BRIDGES. They were the parents of nine 
children who lived beyond infancy.
