The Rev. JACOB BROWNING was a
Presbyterian, but he became a Baptist and a Reverend. Did his wife
influence him?; Note [REF: 018.002] has Rev. Jacob BROWNING being born
in "England" no reference to support this, he indicated as being b. in
NC. in Census info.  ..prs

Based on Goodspeed, History of Tennessee, [REF:#18]
he stated that the "Baptist"
church was one of the pioneer churches in "Henry County"
Among the pioneer Baptist ministers were Rev. TRAINER (after whom
Trainer Creek was named), then

Rev. Jacob BROWNING, can be found in the 1830 Census for
Humphreys Co., TN. [Pg. 315] and the 1832 Tax Roll.

At the Sep. Term of the Circuit Court of 1832, in Humphreys County,
Tennessee, on 19 Sep. 1832, JOHN, 03. SARRETT, stated in his testimony
regarding "Pension Application" of the American Revolutionary
War that he had been a neighbor of
   JACOB BROWNING,  <--Our Subject!
   JEFF ATCHLEY and
   MIITCHEL CHILBERGS?
   for many years and they can testify to his character.
   [REF: #10 ]

Rev. JACOB BROWNING prepared a "Sworn" statement on this day
of 19 Sep. 1832 as a character witness for (father-in-law) JOHN, 03.
SARRETT, and stated that he was "a Clergyman, resident in the
County of Humphreys County, Tennessee. [REF: #10]

About 1835, when Benton County was formed, the "Schism" in
the Baptist Church began to manifest itself in Benton County, and
it is believed that the first division occurred at the "Rumble
Creek Church", the larger part of the congregation adopting the
"Missionary" faith. "Rushing Creek Church" was converted
at about the same time, and other churches rapidly followed. Among
the earlier ministers of this denomination were JACOB BROWNING and
his son BENJAMIN BROWNING. [REF: #18 pg 846]

On 11 Apr. 1836, the "First" term of the Circuit Court of
Benton County was held at the home of SAMUEL H. BURTON, the Judge
was J. W. COOK,, of the 9th. Judicial Circuit presiding. DORSEY P.
HUDSON, qualified as "Clerk", gave the following person as
"Sureties":
