Zoe (Humphreys) SARRETT, 89yrs, passed away quietly Monday, December 7, 2009 at the home of her daughter. [They Did Not Name Her Dau?] She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman E. SARRETT; her parents Vienna (Dodd) HUMPHREYS and Henry Preston HUMPHREYS; and brother John Edward HUMPHREYS. Zoe was the owner of HUMPHREYS� Pine Room, which was started by her parents in 1946. She was a physical Education Teacher at Lincoln Jr. High, a counselor at South Charleston Jr. High and Senior Counselor at South Charleston High School, serving 35 years before retiring. Zoe graduated from Marshall University, where she received a Masters Degree in Education. She served on the board of the Charleston Convention Bureau, and the Kanawha County Counselors Association. She was a member of the Friendship Force, and traveled extensively. Surviving family members are:  #1. Only Daughter: Zoe (Sarrett) COX;  #2. Only Son: John Humphreys SARRETT;  5 Grandchildren: 1. Russell S. ANDERSON, 2. Debbie Z. HUTZLER, 3. Yvonne COX, 4. John Norman SARRETT and 5. Dawn Michelle ALBERTS.  Her remains have been donated to the Marshall University School of Medicine, at her request. A Memorial Service is planned for Friday, December 11, 2009 at 7 pm at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Cochran officiating. Dessie Jane SARRETT, 93yrs of Third Avenue, Beckly, died Wednsday, Oct. 25, 2000, in a Beckley Hospital following a long illness Born Sept. 14, 1908, in Zada, she was the daughter of the late John Calvin and Rosa Mae Worley SARRETT. Mz. SARRETT was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Concord College. She was a retired school teacher employed by the Raleigh County Board of Education for 42 years, with 33 years at Hollywood School. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Raleigh County Association of retired Teachers Association, a life member of the West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees and Alpha Sigma Tau national education sorority. She spent her winters in St Petersburg Fla., since 1971. She was preceded in death by a: brother, Lunda SARRETT,  a sister Gilda (Sarrett) LESLIE,  a niece: Lois Marie HERRING and  a nephew: L.C. Lunda Calvin SARRETT, 86, of Beckley died Dec. 2, 1998, at home after a long illness. He was a retired employee of Beckley Newspapers with 32 years' service. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, and an inductee into the basketball and football halls of fame and attended Concord and Beckley colleges. Surviving: wife, Norma Jean (Songer) SARRETT; son, Bane Edward SARRETT of Beckley; sister, Dessie Jane SARRETT of Beckley; four grandsons; two great-grandchildren. Service and entombment will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum B, Beckley, with the Rev. Robin Debnam officiating. Friends may call 30 minutes prior to service at the mausoleum. Lunda Calvin SARRETT, age 86yrs, of 117 Northwestern Ave., Beckley, Raleigh Co., WV. died 9:51 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at his home following a long illness. Born June 4, 1912, at Zada, Raleigh County, he was the son of the late <--- John Calvin SARRETT and Rosa Mae (Worley) SARRETT. Mr. SARRETT was a 32-year employee of Beckley Newspapers, retiring at the age of 55, and a 82-year resident of Raleigh County. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, lettering in both football and basketball, and was inducted into the Basketball and Football Hall of Fame. He attended Concord and Beckley College, where he played center on their first basketball team known as The Blue Hawks. He was preceded in death by a son, Lunda Calvin "LC" SARRETT Jr., in 1968; a sister, Mrs. Glida Mae (SARRETT) LESLIE; and  a niece, Lois Marie (Leslie) HERRING.  Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Norma Jean (Songer) SARRETT;  a son, Bane Edward SARRETT and his wife, Judy, of Beckley;  a sister, Dessie Jane SARRETT of Beckley;  four grandsons,      1. Norma Jean (Songer) SARRETT, 94, of Beckley , is at peace, having completed her journey here on earth. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 17, 2012, following a courageous battle with numerous illnesses. Norma is now with her loving husband, Lunda, to whom she was married for 66 years. [m. in 1946] Born in Raleigh, [No birth Date?] Norma she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lula SONGER. She was the loving and faithful wife of Lunda Calvin SARRETT, Sr. who passed away December 1, 1998. Norma will be remembered as a true lady and will be sadly missed by her family. Norma was in the first class to attend and graduate from Beckley College. She then when on to work as book-keeper for Richmond Cleaners. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by:  a son, Lunda Calvin �LC� SARRETT Junior in 1968 and  a brother Charles William SONGER in 2006. Mrs. SARRETT was the caring and loving mother to:  her son,  Bane Edward SARRETT and his wife, Judy.  She had four grandchildren,      1. Shane Edward SARRETT,      2. Chad Street SARRETT and his wife, Michele,      3. Shaun Wesley SARRETT and      4. Randall "Kevin" SARRETT  and five great-grandchildren,      1. Madeline SARRETT,      2. Mackenzie SARRETT,      3. Macy SARRETT,      4. Kylie SARRETT and      5. Kaleb SARRETT.  She is also survived by one:  brother, James Edward SONGER of Beckley and Florida and  a sister, Carolyn (Songer) AUSTIN of South Carolina and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Norma was a devout Christian and a member of The Beckley Presbyterian Church and United Methodist Temple . She was active in the Women�s Circle and Ladies� Luncheons. A member of LA East until she was 88 years old, she enjoyed working in her garden, and was a member of The Beckley Art Group. The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Greystone for being so kind to her throughout the last three years of her life. Mausoleum committal services will be Tuesday, June 19th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum B, Beckley . The Reverend Daniel B. Johnson will be officiating. I've fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Ruth Cooley SARRETT, 89, of Arnett, W.Va., surrounded by her family and friends was called to her heavenly home Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at the Raleigh General Hospital, after a long illness. Ruth was the 3rd oldest of 11 children born August 8, 1921, in Eastland, Tenn., to the late Will and Nina Watley COOLEY. Ruth and her family moved to W.Va. in the 1930s where she met and married her husband of 63 years, the late Roma T. SARRETT, Jr. Ruth and Roma lived at Arnett and Beckley most of their married lives. Other than her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Eric Lee Kidd; six brothers, Carl, Leonard, Tommy, Leon, Gene and Auston Cooley, and one sister, Joyce COOLEY. Ruth is survived by a son, Johnny SARRETT of Arnett; a daughter, Kay (Sarrett) KIDD and her husband, Jerry, of Arnett, with whom she had made her home for the past year; three grandsons, Shawn Kidd and wife, Brandy, of Columbus, Ohio, Marty and Jeremy SARRETT, both of Cleveland, Ohio; two granddaughters, Carrie Kidd of Lenore, N.C., Amanda SARRETT of Garrettsville, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Fred Corpening Jr. of Lenore, N.C., Kayla Kidd and Eric Landen Kidd of Columbus, Ohio; three sisters, Mary Cooley and Sue Cartwright of Northridgeville, Ohio, and Mrs. Patty Lovelace of Plano, Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregiver Geraldine Cantley of Arnett. Ruth was a homemaker and a member of Arnett Chapel. Ruth loved working in her flowers, but her biggest pleasure came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. It is difficult to describe in words what a loving and caring person Ruth was. She touched the hearts of everyone she met and will remain in our hearts forever. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Dec. 5, at the Arnett Chapel, Arnett, with Pastor Larry Kinder officiating. Singers will be the Arnett Chapel Choir. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Pallbearers will be Ronald, Charles, Edsel, Michael Dickens, Babe Pettry, Sid Pettry. Honorary pallbearer will be Lewis Earl Clay. Visitation will be two hours before the service. Armstrong funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
